Latest tweet from Ron Howard:

"Last bit of scoring and final sound mix all happening this week. Exciting. VFX finals looking great as is 3D conversion. Can’t wait to share."

Fingers crossed it will be as good as in the heart of the sea 3D as that was amazing. If it was Howard who pushed for the 3D in that then we're in for a treat...in terms of 3D at least. I have no faith the movie will be any good.

For what it's worth, I caught the 3-D trailer before Ready Player One, and it was pretty striking, depth-wise. In the same ball park as Force Awakens. I'm not sold on the movie either, but it definitely sold me on the 3-D.

Before Black Panther 3D, they showed Solo trailer 3D. For me, it looked mostly like a medium 3D range of layers, reminding me of Rogue One or Last Jedi, but I'll keep an open mind for the final film.

Thanks. I have to remember who did the conversion for this one. Sad that these major franchise films aren't going all out with the 3D as Marvel does with their latest batch of Super Hero films, offering strong 3D more often than not. Both Marvel and Lucasfilm funded by Disney.

The creative teams behind it though are quite clearly different. The team behind star wars seems to have been rather apathetic towards it, whereas marvel seems to have become increasingly aware of the need to push stronger and taking the steps to make that happen.

Also I don't mean this in a nasty way, but have people ever seen a trailer get boo'ed before, as that's what happened to this film before Avengers 3 when I saw it. Not a huge number of people, but still multiple people and not just one group sitting together. I didn't care for TLJ at all and am not really interested in this unless people I trust tell me its worth a shoot, but it just surprised me.

To me, the popularity of the character is entirely the product of Harrison Ford's charisma, not the story of the character himself. The only reason this doesn't bomb is that it gets the default Star Wars audience, IMO.

I agree. I have very little interest . IT was Ford that made the character so popular. From what I have seen, the new actor doesn't have his charm and will never be the nerf herder Harrison was.

It'll be interesting, especially if it is received like TLJ just how much damage to the brand has occurred. TLJ despite opening very close to TFA fell around $700 million behind it in the end. I suspect unless the film resonates with the audience which hasn't really happened with these new films yet, then we could be looking at less then $1 billion which given the $2 billion haul of TFA would be rather disappointing.

Fingers crossed this is the film that gets these new films back on track for me and many others. But i'll be waiting to here from certain people before giving this one a go.

So the dcp file came in on Friday and to my surprise the 3D is a 4K scan and the 2D is a 2k scan.

I stand corrected, 3D is 2k and 2D is 4k.

I hope amazon UK or other stores start offering the pre-order for Solo Star Wars Story Blu Ray 3D.

Good point. Not enough time to convert it if the conversion team got the majority of shots later. I heard Ron Howard reshot roughly 80% of the film if that's true, with the original duo's first stage filming mostly done before it was scrapped for a new vision.

Good point about the 3D, where Marvel seems to take a firsthand interest in the 3D quality many times. Abrams cares about the 3D too thankfully, as seen in Force Awakens. I'm hopeful he's in charge again for the final episode IX, for the 3D and the film.

I can understand why audience members with a closed mind may be offended by someone playing the role of Han Solo, when Ford is the guy who made the role what it is. Unless this new guy can capture the essence and charisma of Ford's Han Solo, the film will not be accepted by many. But if he somehow pulls it off and has a good energy in the final film, it could be a fun movie. I was listening to Glover talk about his role as Lando, and he actually sounds slightly like him, with the tone of his voice. I hope so in the film anyway.

It would be great if they got that guy Anthony Ingruber to play the role of Solo, but I'll keep an open mind and see how it goes. I'm actually looking forward to see what they do with this spin-off film, having enjoyed Rogue One a lot.

When I saw the trailer for the first Lord of the Rings in theaters, a number of people from the audience were mocking the part of the trailer where Gollum shows up and says "My precious". They laughed and said something like, "Oh, so scary. Stupid." As a fan of Lord of the Rings books, I didn't let it bother me. That was back in 2001. Otherwise, it's rare to hear people put down a trailer.

To me, the new guy (don't know his name, don't care) looks like a young Dennis Quaid, but nothing like a young Harrison Ford. His voice is too high, and the whole thing reeks of Millennium Falcon 90210.

But it doesn't matter. I'll get the 3D blu for completion's sake, but I have zero desire to see this in the theaters. Even with free tickets on Cheerios. (How will they score that: If it's sold out, but half the tickets were free, that can't count to box office, can it?)

Ugh. I hate the very idea of this film.

/Rant over.

EDIT: Now a straight up Lando movie with Donald Glover -- Day 1.

Thanks for the info with Cheerios. Cheerios helps pay for the tickets as part of a promotion I believe, much like those movie tickets on Blu-Rays of related movies from the past, like with X-Men, Spider-Man, etc. It will sell more Cheerios, so they gain a lot of promotion from it.

But yeah, hopefully Solo 3D will be available for pre-order soon on any overseas site. At this point, I have doubts about a pre-order from Disney/Lucasfilm for blu ray 3D in the US.

As far as the movie, I'll go in with low expectations and just hope to be entertained as with any Star Wars movie.

So I watched this last night, 3D is very mild and no pop outs at all. There’s some nice depth here and there
[Show spoiler](specially inside the falcon)
. I thought in a lot of scenes it was way too dark and it was kinda hard to notice any detail in 3D. Watched in RealD 3D.

The majority of people don't watch 3D at home. They have HDTV's and watch SD channels stretched to fit the screen.

Thanks a lot for the heads up BLMN on the milder 3D from the sound of it. Did the action scenes amp up the 3D at least?

The 3D in the trailer is a step down from what I was hoping, so it's not too hopeful based on the 3D in the trailer for me to expect much with the 3D in the final film.
