Hmv.co.jp should have it for $60 after shipping. Might be pricey, but as of now it goes for over $100 on eBay.

Is Half a Loaf of Kung and Spiritual Kung Fu in actual High Definition? I have the old Full Frame Simitar DVDs. I believe it was on the English dub for Spiritual Kung Fu that the English audio cuts off in the final minutes of the film. I would like to get one of those as well as it's ¥2,295 with the "Multibuy" price on HMV. I could try to sync up the English dub and create a subtitle track for it and reburn it to a BD-R. It'll come to $82 if I get the new Blu-ray for Police Story and one of those two.

I'm planning on getting the HK Blu-ray for Police Story 3 and creating a HD version for the Chinese version based off of the HD OAR version of Supercop from the triple feature with Bravo Two Zero and Driven to Kill. I know that Supercop is shorter, so, some of the scenes from the video source on the HK Blu-ray will have to be cut in.

With the new Blu-ray for Police Story, I have both English dubs for the film, I'll try to sync those up as well. The original English dub is called Police Force. It's gonna suck that it'll have Japanese subtitles on the screen, but, that's the price to pay for having it in HD.

None of them are true HD, only the Japanese theatrical cut of Police Story. This is only because Paramount Japan took the initiative to make their own master for their exclusive cut.

OK I have just taken delivery of these:

Wheels on Meals (Japanese Paramount).
The Protector (Japanese Paramount).
The Protector (Shout Factory).
Police Story Steel book edition.

I am thinking of buying these next (Japanese Paramount):

Armour of God
Armour of God II
Dragons Forever

and soon:
The First Misson

Does anybody own any of these? are they worth getting?

Thanks

I own the japanese FIRST MISSION Blu Ray and it's a must-have, because it's the extended version and the picture quality is also nice (i think it's true hd).

Unfortunatly it doesn't have the extras...I keep my japanese DVD (2Disc set) just because of the Behind-the-Scenes stuff...

I've yet to pick up the First Mission blu myself, but because it has the extended version (supposedly in true HD... wasn't mastered by Fortune Star, after all ), I've really been contemplating it! Unlike the Japanese cut of Police Story, First Mission's transfer is restored and only has removable subs.

Such a shame they didn't include the special features on the Blu-ray. Thanks for clearing that up!

I must admit I am pretty tempted but I am very disappointed about the special features being missing!! It's not as if there is no room on the BD for them!!

Paramount Japan, a studio with more balls than their home base counterpart here in the States.

Ok, with getting my W2 forms and getting paid on Friday, I'm ordering the Japanese Police Story Blu-ray. $61 on Yesasia.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the tipoff regarding the Japanese PS re-release. It's nice to have a halfway decent version of this film, even if it is an alternate edit. Anyway, I have a few observations.

-I gave the disc a brief spin overall. The Hong Kong edition is the main feature, with the Japanese version being an extra. I’m positive the HK version is an upconvert. The remix is horrible too. But, you all knew that already.
-I still haven't watched the Japanese edit all the way through but I have watched significant portions while cobbling a script together. (See below.) The Japanese edit is surprisingly low bit-rate (~12.1 GB for the movie, 640 kbps DD stereo soundtrack included) but I didn't notice any significant compression artefacts. The main problem seems to be that the print needs significant cleaning. The color timing shifts a bit during reel changes, several shots that are out of focus (although I believe this is true for the HK edit too), the soundtrack has some pops and crackles, etc. Despite that, the picture's probably about as good as it's going to get for this film, barring a massive restoration process. That said, the transfer was film-like, if a bit dull. Just don't expect miracles, and you're golden. If I were reviewing for this site, I'd probably give the video a 2.5/5 at best. Its true HD roots are offset by the need for serious cleaning.
-The Japanese subs are burned-in subs that reside on the picture. Interestingly enough, the disc includes a Japanese edit with Japanese soundtrack and without burned-in subs, but it's SD. I’m guessing the producers couldn’t find a print or HD source without subs and made due with an SD transfer that had a pre-existing Japanese dub.
-As mentioned above, I'm almost done with an English subtitle script for the Japanese edit. I ripped the script from the Dragon Dynasty DVD, including the opening and the press conference scene. I then edited it all together, made sure everything syncs up (some scenes were moved around, with a line here and there cut from the HK edit), etc. I just need to get a few lines translated or double-checked, and I'll toss it up online if it's okay with the mods. People can PM me for the link when it's ready.

Thanks.

You must of paid a fortune for those...

I would think that Gorgeous would be around the same price as those films. Why is Gorgeous pricey?
