I think all the Star Trek shows are running in the UK right now. They seem to jump around streaming providers. I don't think anyone is rushing to Amazon Instants or Netflix to stream them they're just nice to have the option of watching. I do think fans will be eager to get them in HD, then if they are streamed it would be a plus point for new subscribers, in SD they're just convenient filler.

By no means is DS9 on BD a guaranteed thing, however I think folks are reading into the wrong thing: there's less to be said about the phrase 'first look' than there is that it's at "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". If they were only referring to the station's appearance in Birthright, they would have merely said 'Deep Space Nine' not 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".
If they're even considering it, though, now would be the time: they've already got the team together so the costs to do it are as low as they're ever going to be. Further, they already had to model the station for TNG so that's a major item already completed. Moreover, following the trends, home video sales are only going to decline (one imagines) so it makes sense to get them out there while they still can. That and I imagine they would want to have a set of HD masters available going forward. Either way, I'll take whatever glimmer of hope I can get; despite owning every series/season of Trek on DVD, I've repurchased all Blu Ray movie/season releases of TOS/TNG/Ent even to simply have a chance of getting DS9 in HD. |

![]() Better still, then, as that means there's not as many effects that require replacing in early seasons of DS9. If they're on the fence about how well things'll sell, I'd say start with the early seasons which are cheaper and see how sales are before they take on the effects-heavy/more expensive later seasons. |

![]() Edit: I also forgot to mention that the 50th Anniversary of Trek is almost upon us (2016). If I was them, I'd want to have more shiny HD stuff for the fans to buy. Plus, the 25th anniversary of DS9 will be in 2018 -- it would be a nice little release window, from the franchise's 50th to the show's 25th. Last edited by baronkohinar; 06-23-2014 at 02:41 AM. |

I would imagine that demand for SD content is going to wane in upcoming years (the same way people moved away from black and white content when color tv came about).
If they don't restore DS9 and/or Voyager, they'll have a harder time earning any streaming/syndication revenue in the future. If you have any hope of earning revenue on the content I would think an HD upgrade would be critical. I would also think in the long run they would easily make their money back. Bluray sales, streaming revenue, and syndication.... A single one might not do it, but multiple avenues most likely would. You would think that would keep going with it since they have the TNG team together still. It would probably cost more to shut it all down and start it all up again. The other problem is that the first seasons of ds9 are pretty rough. It doesn't start showing promise until season 3, and really starts getting good when Worf joins (and Sisko shaves his head) at the beginning of s4. I should stop rambling but one issue TNG blurays had was they are pretty expensive. Here in Canada it's over $70/season when they come out. Most other shows are priced under $50 and drop rapidly within months. Obviously there's a huge cost to remastering the eps, but they do charge a pretty steep premium for season sets (compared to other shows). |

![]() Yep, this is me. I hadn't seen most of TNG before, and I certainly don't regret buying the BDs - I've had the pleasure of diving into a phenomenal series via an absolutely beautiful presentation. But the driving force for me was definitely to show support for getting DS9 to have the same treatment. If it doesn't happen, it will be beyond disappointing. ![]() |

I'm really hanging out for the ds9 release. I loved the series when airing but never got to finish it. I held off getting it on DVD, along with next generation, and now have next gen on blu-ray, along with the original series , and have voyager and enterprise on DVD (yeas unfortunately I bought it and watched it a year before the blu-ray release).
So ds9 is the big hole in my star trek collection |

Saw this posted on another forum. It's from a few weeks ago.
http://www.nerdist.com/2014/06/exclu...ne-on-blu-ray/ Some excerpts from the Producer of the ST:TNG Blu-Ray, Roger Lay Jr. "And honestly they have to look at the sales of Next Gen and see how it did overall and what kind of a budget they could allot for Deep Space Nine. So will it happen immediately? I don’t know. Do we all want to go and bring Deep Space Nine back? Absolutely. I think the next couple of months will be crucial. It will also be crucial to fans who have been waiting for all seven seasons of TNG to be released. It sounds sad, but it’s a business decision when it should be a creative one. But you need sales in order to put out more product, it’s as simple as that. We’re hoping to get news within the next several months. But if fans want to do anything to make that happen, pick up these Blu-ray sets right now, because the entire Next Generation collection will be out.” “We’re all ready to go, man,” added Lay. “I’ve been finding some really cool stuff related to the making of Deep Space Nine that I can’t wait to put on a Blu-ray set. Enterprise is out on Blu-ray as well – we released that simultaneously with TNG. So DS9 seems like the next logical choice.” Last edited by iaragorn1; 07-22-2014 at 04:00 AM. Reason: added quotes |

Has there been any news as to when we should expect "Star Trek: The Next Generation (Season 7)" to be released on Blu-ray? I'd be happy to show my support for a possible "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" release on Blu-ray by purchasing ST:TNG on Blu-ray, but not until all 7 seasons of the show are available. Have the first six seasons sitting in my Amazon.com Wishlist and that's where they will continue to stay until season 7 is available for purchase as well. Just refuse to go peace meal one season at a time on Blu-ray with TV shows I already own in full on DVD.

Am gutted now as I thought we had a confirmed release for the Blu Rays. I'm sure we'll see them once TNG season 7 dies down. Maybe news of S1 in early 2015.
We can all hope anyway! |

Here is another HD DS9 pic from the TNG season 6 episode "Birthright".
![]() Saw this HD clip on another forum. Apparently someone has the old digital files of DS9 and they did this vid to show that the old files could be re-rendered in HD. One last picture from "Birthright". ![]() Last edited by iaragorn1; 08-08-2014 at 02:58 AM. |
