There's a nice chart here showing the combination of screen size and viewing distance you need to see the difference between 4k and 1080p...for instance, if you had a 50-inch 4k screen, you would only start to notice a difference if you were closer than 6 feet or so.

I use to work at a multiplex with two 2k digital projectors. I would like have those files on the disc. 2 hour movies usually where anywhere from 100 GB to 160 GB. My problem with Blu Ray right now if that you are still are able to see some compression artifacts once your watching it on a 65" or higher screen. Blu Ray is perfect for home viewing. I this moment i feel that its unnecessary for 4k at home but i wont complain unless you're using a huge screen. if we can get a Blu-Ray disc with more layers and a higher bit rate for these 2k masters that be amazing. I wish most films would be scanned at the highest possible resolution just for preservation sake instead of just 2k.
