what about ID4 - i don't think it was 5,1 only
In thaters there was this scene inside the mothership where the "good" UFO was flying in a direct line from screen and into the horiszon" where the side speakers was following it - the sound litterally changed from the speakers to the spearkers untell they reached the last side-speakers before the cinema-screen i remember this very clearly I know the BD was in 5,1 but still.... |

Good theater setups can have excellent phantom imaging with well mixed tracks. I know people who swear they've heard split-surround effects from mono-surround films, the imaging was that good. Before 1993 there were only a handful of films in 5.1, all in 70MM format. The rest were either Dolby Stereo (Dolby Surround) or 70MM 4.1 The film Star Trek: First Contact had what you could call a Dolby Atmos-like effect (height) when the Borg Queen initially spoke to Data, her disembodied voice floated above the audience and the rest of the soundtrack. Quite impressive, again from 1996 and "only" 5.1 Last edited by PeterTHX; 05-04-2013 at 08:36 PM. |

You think they might re-release it in 7.1 one day?
It feels just like yesterday when coming across a 7.1 BD was like finding a needle in a haystack.. LG 55 Inch LM6700 Passive 3D TV
Sony 5.1 HTIB, Sony 32 Inch LCD TV Optoma HD67 Active 3D Projector With 160 Inch Screen Nvidia 3D Vision 7.1 Polk Audio System (6 Towers) Onkyo HT-Rc270 receiver |

Well, I kind of understand on Red Tails, since that was a special 11.1 Auro 3D mix and it didn't use a 7.1 base mix like Atmos does. Nearly every Dolby Atmos mix until recently started out from a base 7.1 mix (now they're starting to be natively created in Atmos and then downmixed to 7.1 or 5.1). Supposedly there is only one Atmos release where it had a 5.1 base mix and supposedly that wasn't Taken 2...even though Taken 2 wasn't released in Dolby Surround 7.1...which is a little confusing. Even if there was only a 5.1 base mix it still should have been relatively easy to downmix to 7.1 and use that for the Blu-ray.
They may have to entirely remix Red Tails for 7.1 |
