I've finished a third draft of my latest script. Which is a comedy called "Life As Liz" with Jen being in mind written as the lead. It's my 12th script.

Ah, the Stepfather. Another unncessary, bad horror remake. That movie, at least, has a young Amber Heard in a bikini for most of it, so it does have a leg up on Prom Night in at least one way.

And, yes, PG-13 (or PG, or G, or whatever) horror can be done well. And, yeah, ghost films and suspense films lend themselves well to that rating, and it's fine to prefer those. However, slasher films and other films where the kills are the main event, lend themselves to an R rating, generally. And it's fine if you don't prefer those; don't watch them (as it seems you are doing, so good on you).

What really grinds me gears is when people assume their preference for non-gore-based horror films indicates, not just an opinion, but evidence of their own superiority of film taste, and go one to suggest that all horror films should be of their chosen type. Or the related phenomena of low-information-film-watches who assume that every horror film (except, perhaps, one or two that they, actually, you know, watched) is the first half of I Spit On Your Grave. I have posted at length on this before, but it is a subject that really angers me.
Halloween is a slasher with virtually no gore that is just as effective as slashers with it. Again, mood plays a hefty part in that. It's not that blood in itself is bad, but a lot of the time all it really serves for is gross out rather than scare. Some films just take it way too far. I tried watching Midnight Meat Train once and couldn't make it through. It was just too much. I don't intend it to seem as if I'm some snob who thinks his taste is superior. Trust me, there are plenty who would tell me otherwise. My taste is mine alone and no one else's.
On behalf of the fine people of New York and real rhinos everywhere, I ask you to put your mechanized paws in the air!

UO, from a discussion IRL: Zack Snyder would probably be a pretty good director if he wasn't completely and utterly tone deaf.

It's just the color of her eyes and the color of her skin but that is Chloe Grace Moretz.
