John Wayne's Hondo in 3D at 2013 TCM Film Festival

It has just been disclosed that the 3D version of Hondo, starring John Wayne, will play at some point during the Turner Classic Film Festival, taking place in Hollywood from April 25-28. This will be the film's 60th anniversary.

The TCM film fest has had the premieres for most of the major classic catalog restrorations for the past 4 years.
And ALL of those movies show up on bluray within 12-15 months of playing at TCM.
I am willing to bet, that that it will be on 3D bluray within the year.

Can't wait to see this on the big screen of the Chinese in 3D in April

Would home video distribution of this now fall to Warner Bros? It would seem to bode well for an actual BR3D release if George Feltenstein and Co had their hands on it.

George didn't make any mention of it durring the Dial M 3D screening at the chinese 6 back in Sept, when he mentioned the other titles WB was going to release in 3D blu this year.

Did the 2D release go to WB with the other catalog titles that WB aquired on Jan 1st? If so then its not out of the realm of possibilties that the 3D version would have as well. fingers crossed durring the introduction they will mention a upcoming Bluray release when it screens at TCM in April.

Did George mention any upcoming classic 3D releases other than House of Wax at the Dial M screening? The only other title I've seen listed as coming is the Wizard of Oz conversion.

I saw it tonight and it looked pretty wonderful. There are a few sections where they seemed to be working from weak material, but 85% of it makes you feel like you right there with Wayne.

I read somewhere that they had some problems filming the 3D on location. I seem to remember that a camera or two broke and so not all the shots were in true 3D.

I think the 3D films from the 50's are amongst the best looking and I'll be getting this if its released on 3D bluray for sure. The only other western from the 50's that I've seen in 3D is "Taza, Son of Cochise" and the 3D is spectacular in that one. Westerns are perfect for 3D with their panoramic landscapes and open spaces.
