Saldana is a good actress, but Farrow really was spectacular in the title role and to put that down to just her look is doing her a disservice. Her transition from naive, happy wife to a haunted vessel for Satan is one of the most memorable performances in the horror genre. Charlize Theron twice gave a performance closely modelled on Farrow's in The Devil's Advocate and The Astronaut's Wife and despite being a good actress, never managed the same degree of heartbreaking vulnerability.

The most interesting thing about the mini-series is that it's directed by Agnieszka Holland who has made some decent films in the past, best of all Europa Europa, so its a little sad to see her slumming it in mini-series remake land. Still, despite Rosemary's Baby being one of my top ten favourite films, this has me more intrigued than someone like horror mini-series hack Mick Garris mangling this. It looks like they departed quite a bit from the original novel and the Polanski film by setting it in Paris and recasting the Ruth Gordon role with the glamorous Carole Bouquet. This hopefully means that at least it isn't going to be a straight copy.

Remakes happen. Ignore the ones you don't like. Problem solved.

There's only one Psycho to me, but there are two The Fly's.

I was expecting a different (and in my opinion) better cover art for the Criterion release. But the movie is great no doubt about that! Farrow is superb, so is Cassevetes, despite playing an a** of a character.

Better than the iconic poster image? There'd have been rioting in the streets if they used newly created alternate artwork like they use for so many other titles.

I wonder what those decisions are like; does some Criterion designer make mock-ups of several different versions, then the executive producer looks them over and decides "Nah, let's go with the original"? Or did they know from the start that they'd use the classic poster image?

No. Way. I applaud Criterion for going with the classic poster art instead of a new, minimalist design. Wish more labels (even Criterion) would do this.
