Default E3d470vx

Does anyone have any settings for the VIZIO E3D470VX that they are happy with? I tried some of the settings that I have found online and I think they are way too dark, so I have my backlight at 75. Also, my color settings all at 128 look a lot better than anything I have found. Any help would be appreciated.

Question Vx42l

I picked up the VX42L, a 42" LED / LCD from 207 at an estate sale today, making me The Last Person On Earth To Get An HDTV. :-)

I had an exceptional SD TV before this, but the settings are still challenging me. I understand (now) that the contrast should be as HIGH as possible, and the brightness as LOW as possible (the exact opposite to the way I set up SD TVs). I also get now that the backlight should only be used to make up for ambient light in the room.

Has anybody had their VX42L professionally calibrated in the past, and willing to share the resulting settings? I'd like to get this one calibrated professionally, but don't know when the money will be available.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me, especially in getting the most accurate color possible! This is a fantastic idea for a thread.

Greetings from the California coast:
I have the Vizio E550i-B2

My first HDTV in 2001 was ISF calibrated. At the time it was worth the $600.

I would have responded sooner but I've had electrical issues in my apartment, in a house that's over a hundred years old.
My Vizio has been plugged into a weak outlet. After changing the outlet, I discovered a new level of excellence.
I would not have believed how much the quality of the electrical current going to the set can effect performance.

I'm happy with my Vizio even in comparison with my Plasma. I still have some color issues, but nothing disturbing.

The Disney WoW disc is $18 on Amazon. It is the easiest to use of the set-up discs and it has more features and levels than you'll ever need.
It does the job, short of a pro calibration.

After I solved the electrical problem, I used the Disney WoW disc for a fresh set-up. Then I watched the finale of Jackson's King Kong.
I've seen it on three of my units many times. Always impressive but it's so optimized now it's like I'd seen only half the detail.
We don't need to show you no steenking IMAX.

I don't need the Vizio local dimming feature. I turned it off in the first week I had it.
The blacks are superb on their own-- at least in my dark viewing environment.

You can download the full instructions for the WoW Disc and explore before you buy:

Tips for WoW
I've discovered these along the way:

In a totally dark room I built my settings with the backlight at 69.
Check Picture Size for pixel-to-pixel fit.
Set up for 'Contrast' and 'Brightness', Sharpness and Color

Start 'pure' with special features off.
Black Detail- low or off
Active LED zones- off
Reduce signal noise- off
Black Noise- off
Film Mode Auto...

Create a pre-set name in your set up menu.
"Calibrate" using Movie or Cinema. I forget what Vizio calls it.

Start with Contrast, then set Brightness.
You should have three shades of white on the high end. The high end is critical. There's a tendency to drive it too high and create 'clipping'.
But a bright 'specular' white is essential. Just don't blow out the lesser whites. This is explained on the disk.

Once you have Beginner's level set, fine tune your shadows and whites using the Advanced patterns.
You'll know you have it right when you don't care about settings anymore and you just want to find someone
to come in at look at this amazing almost-3D picture.

If anyone has a 600i-b3 and has settings for it they are happy with I would love it if you shared. I'm pretty much ready to put mine on craigslist, I hate the color so much.
