Thumbs up for that reference. A proper reference for humanist Star Trek, that's for sure.

E.T behind the scenes featurette, has spoilers which I found one particularly interesting.

Do like the new uniform McCoy wears.

Well some "accidentally leaked" concept work has surfaced online. i'll place spoiler tags on it.

[Show spoiler]it is of a new starship design, USS Franklin, which apparently appears on Mr Spock's uniform

Star Trek beyond sees reshoots and an additional cast member.

"Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond is coming in a few shorts months, but news just broke of reshoots as well as the addition of a new cast member. Deadline reports Shohreh Aghdashloo (24, The Expanse) has been added to the cast as the High Command of the Federation."

I like the actress, and I remember her from 24, interesting timing. and the character she is portraying really opens the story wide at least from what we got in the 90 second trailer.

Hopefully just a video conversation with Earth and not yet another Earth focused climax.

i think the trailer hints at a visit to a nearby by Earth based colony, just looking at the sky detailing top left it looks like a "contained dome" stylization.

of course the very next scene shows starfleet personal running to investigate a crashed ship (i know yet another one)

..

Looking forward to Star Trek Beyond. Into Darkness was one of my favorite sci fi action movies of that year. I'm pretty sure we'll see a more serious trailer soon compared to the comedy antics of the first trailer.

Strangely at the moment I really couldn't care less about this film and I certainly was pumped about previous 2, as well as being a Star Trek fan in general.

I can't exactly say why either just not fussed at all.

Agreed.

I enjoyed the first two recent films but I want them to stay away from Earth this time. I hope this movie is more about exploration and discovery than trying to stop a major villain of some kind. I mean there's usually a battle in most of the older films but Star Trek was never supposed to be super action packed like Star Wars.

Agreed - good points here. Im a huge SW fan but I also love Trek and do like that the fact that its a different tone than SW.

Defintely want them to make Earth NOT an important piece of the films puzzle. Lets get out into space...right?

Agreed. Outside of the movies, the TV series rarely visited Earth. I always felt that was much of the appeal of ST/SW. You were always visiting strange new worlds. There are plenty of other sci-fi shows that deal with future earth.
Finn: "What about that ship?"
Rey: "That one's garbage!...[Explosion]...The garbage will do."

The opening speech for the TV show all those years says it all. "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."

Star Trek Into Darkness had heavy focus on marketing iirc. trailers, film snippets, a 9 minute Imax preview. a lot happened. All we have had to this point is a much maligned 90 second teaser, which seemed to aggravate peoples fears.

It has been rather quiet on the western front, and I am a tad disappointed given the year is 50th year of Star Trek in all. You could draw any conclusion from tis, considering it has had a staff overhaul n the past 18 months.

I'm personally excited by little details that I am reading and seeing.

You know, miniskirts look good and all, but why keep them for the new movies?
In the '60 they were there to justify the presence of females in the crew, but there is a reason they promptly ditched them for the TOS movies: they were silly in the context of a starship crew and still are.

These movies take place in the same era as the show, so the uniforms roughly match to keep that continuity. I'm sure you might say "well they changed the screens and computers" and you'd be right, but the uniforms are more iconic.
