I'm not Luddite, but that would really be the ultimate irony... to see that they unreasonably hampered themselves and had to go back just a decade later and fix it.


(Then again, "going back and fixing it" is what Lucas does. Apparently more satisfying -- creatively and financially -- then just doing your best and moving on.)

Not only model, they built near-to-scale sections of the ship for the sinking scenes. Titanic and The Abyss had the most ernomous physical sets built, even crazier when built inside a giant tank. Only Jim can do that (yeah, we're buddies ).

In other news today, Lord of the Rings fans have something to be excited about. Director Peter Jackson has officially confirmed on his Facebook page that his plans for The Hobbit have gone from two films (A Unexpected Journey and There and Back Again) to THREE! It seems there's a ton of extra material found in The Appendices of Tolkien's book version of Return of the King that pertain to and expand the story of The Hobbit, so he wants to film as much of it as he can. Okay, I'm in. It sounds like the decision was motivated by the filmmakers' desire to tell more of the story and not just money, so I'll trust that they'll get it right.
