Default Japan bluray

Is the Japan bluray any better for picture quality ? The US bluray of DAM is so dull in colors , Kinda washed out .

I hate the International audio dub but I'm not paying $100 for the one with the AIP dub .

I think the Japanese bluray is the same transfer, but with the correct color settings, so it looks less washed out on a TV that you didn't change the settings on? It has no english audio or subtitles either way, though.

I did not try to adjust the colors on my tv , Do you mean that If I did that it would look better or that the Japanese has all ready done that ? I hate to mess around with the settings on my tv, I have had it a few months and I'm finally happy with it .

And I know either way we get no english

You don't need to change the colours settings on your TV just the black level, for some reason they encoded both DAM and GvM with the wrong black level so everything looks a bit washed, it's the reverse of what happened with The X-Files Season 8 as that was encoded too dark but you can change the RGB setting on your TV to brighten the image and correct the issue.

The Japanese releases was encoded correctly so doesn't have the washed out look.

If you have any settings on your BD player you can do it there and leave the TV alone.

It's just one setting (RGB from "limited" to "full"). When you switch it back you'll be where you started.

I thought more about this and $40 for the Japan bluray with no english at all and it's probably the same transfer . I'll stick with the Media blasters copy .
Anyone know are the Japan 60th anniversary blurays just old transfers I would think .Is there any kind of talk at Toho about doing new scans (4k) maybe ? Toho is a strange company I doubt they would inform anyone to what there doing . Hopefully with the new Japan movie coming out they will start doing more .

The RGB setting is on the tv ? I do not think I have run across anything saying limited or full ,I'm not sure my bluray player has picture settings . I have to look .

Is there a good place to order Destroy All Monsters from? Amazon says that it will ship in 2-4 weeks, and the sellers start at around $30.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend on it. Ebay is worth a shot.

Yep, Media Blasters is selling "2-packs" of DAM and MEGALON on ebay for about $35 + $5 shipping. Both titles are probably OOP and Media Blasters is just selling off all their inventory now. Not too bad a price if you wanted both.

That's just what I did. I hadn't picked up either and didn't want to chance them being OOP.

Most of them, yes. Anyone selling the original, 2011 first release will mention their Blu-ray contains the extras, especially the AIP English language dubbed audio track as that release will fetch usually well over $100 while the 2nd, extras-free release from 2014 is currently averaging $20 - $35.

Looks like in japan all the movies are getting new dvd releases but no bluray ? the blurays are slowly becoming OOP of the 60th anniversary collection .

I'm surprised not much has been talked about since there is a new movie this month / I would think more blurays would have been announced from any country by now .

Yeah, it looks the same. It was recalled because Toho freaked out about the inclusion of the AIP dub, I don't think there's any chance we'll see it again.

My real holy grail with the classic Godzilla flicks would be a release of Godzilla Vs the Smog Monster, I love that dub, especially the English version of the terrible theme song. I dunno what Toho's problem was with the AIP dub on DAM, I don't think Classic Media got in any trouble for including the AIP dubs of all those films in their DVD box. Maybe just because they didn't have an inferior English "international" dub.

One of my most prized LDs. It syncs fine with the Blu-ray. Someone put the audio from the VHS on Youtube, so everyone can SAAAVE THE EARTH!
