I've had a look myself and I can tell the difference, although it wasn't a completely fair comparison. I tried Baraka on the 42" HD Ready TV downstairs using the BRSS10 and the blacks were washed out. The TV usually has deeper blacks than what was shown. I'll try a film on my 1080p TV and see how it looks, although that won't affect the black levels.

I can promise there is no difference between a $50 player and a one costing $1000 for Blu Ray. Last edited by tele1962; 06-27-2012 at 08:49 PM. |

I have had some issues with my Toshiba BDX3100 as of late. Video on some discs (mainly Sony titles like Terminator 3, In the line of Fire, and some other ones) have been stuttering, and sometimes the player loses frame rate and slows down and eventually catches up again. I thought that I had bought a dud and it just took a little time to show, but had an idea. The player got really hot after having played a movie, so I moved the player to another location in my stereo rack, which gave the player more room above it (it already had room, but I guess it needed more...). Now I have watched three Sony titles after the move, and no problems. Video is smooth as a baby's butt once again.
Tip: For those of you who have bought this player or similar models like the BDX 1200/3200 and may be experiencing the same issues, give your player more room to "breathe". I have noticed the player doesn't get half as warm after I gave it more room. I figure it must have solved the problem. This may not be relevant to anyone, but I thought I'd post anyway just in case. |

I'm not sure that is the case. I know there's no difference between the quality that's outputted through HDMI cables as the signal is either on or off there's no in-between level. So a three quid cable will be the same as a hundred quid one.
You're saying this is the case with the actual video as well, there's no middle ground the player either outputs the information or it doesn't? All that information outputted through the HDMI will be the same?

Long time since I last posted in here. I finally got around to ordering that Toshiba BDX3100. £87.99 from Amazon UK. Looking forward to replacing my current Region Free player.
I might be putting it up for sale once I've had time with the Toshiba and am happy with it. In more Region Free player news the Toshiba BDX2100 can be added to the list along with the 1100, 1200, 3100 and 3200. All have Region Free Firmware available. My PSN Trophy Card | My Steelbook™ Collection

Got the BDX3100 up and running today. Upgrading the firmware couldn't have been easier. And it's played all the BDs my old one couldn't! And it's playing all of my most recent titles so I couldn't be happier with it
