My new 65" VT30 Panasonic arrives on Monday. I'm wondering if I should get a new 3D blu-ray player or just use my PS3?
How's the quality of 3D on the PS3? Would the 3d be better on an actual 3D player? If there is a difference, is it marginal or significant? Thanks! |

I know you lose any lossless audio, if that is a concern to you.

Comparing it to the Panasonic 3D 300 series, for Blu-ray discs I have not noticed and difference. The Panasonic does do a slightly better job upconverting DVD discs. Also while playing 3D movies the PS3 currently cannot do BD-J (Java). I don't believe this should be a problem since this was known at the time Blu-ray 3D discs were first introduced and since PS3 Blu-ray makes up a large proportion of Blu-ray players.

![]() I guess I'll stick with the PS3 for now. Any other input is welcome. |

While I have yet to try 3D on a standalone player, thus far I've been more than satisfied with the visual quality the PS3 outputs, you won't be disappointed!

the ps3 is not as good as a blu ray player. Put the spears & munsil blu-ray in them and you will see the ps3 will look worse. But i use the ps3 as my 3d blu-ray player. I plan on getting a 3d blu-ray player later this year. also i dont like having to use 90 watts of power to play a blu-ray when my blu-ray player uses 15 watts

Dead thread, but yes 3D requires high speed HDMI.

There's likely a difference but I bet it's marginal.
It can't play DolbyTrueHD in 3D mode, though most 3D titles are in DTS-HD(Transformers, Kung Fu Panda 2 are Dolby though). If you think it's worth the money for "perfection" then go for it. It will be an upgrade. But I still use my PS3 for 3D and everything looks great. |

3D games aren't very good on the PS3. I suspect that will change with the PS4. PC is miles better for 3D games if that is something your are interested in.
