All of these SHOULD be on Blu-Ray as well.

Recently re-watched The Salton Sea. This is by far Val Kilmer's best role. I've been a fan ever since I saw this in the theater (limited release) back in late Spring 2002.

Great neo-noir/revenge thriller, with some comedic moments as well. Great supporting cast also. Amazing film. The opening scenes with Kilmer playing the trumpet while the room burns around him is sublime, and the rest of the film continues in the same vein.

The soundtrack is also very impressive. It's not always easy for movies to successfully feature songs from different genres, but the music was fantastic here - Moby's "My Weakness", Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side", The Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be", and Dean Martin's "Ain't that a kick in the head?" are all great songs, and really worked well in the film.

It's high time this was finally released on Blu. The existing DVD is not bad, but it would be great to see this incredible film remastered.

Great movie, I didn't quite understand the ending, but I recently recorded it in HD & I'm sure I'll get it this time, the guy with no nose is really creepy. We need this on Blu-ray, I suppose if this ever gets a release it would come from the Warner Archive.

Agreed, I remember the soundtrack being really excellent for this film and set the right tone. The trumpet parts were by far my favorite, very jazzy noir.

Yes, these were excellent. Note that the music he was playing were songs by Miles Davis (Kilmer's wife in the film mentions this). I'm not a huge jazz fan, but was extremely impressed by the music here. Here's more info. on the specific songs played on the soundtrack, and their placement in the film:

Underrated performance from Val. Was thinking about the film the other day.

It's been years since I last saw it.
I own the DVD, and would catch it occasionally airing on cable many years ago but now it's as if it was totally forgotten about.
It feels more like one of those mid-to-late 90's gems that doesn't get the appreciation it deserves until 20 years have passed.
Either way, it went undeservedly underappreciated, even by indie film standards, especially when you consider the unique highly stylized story, soundtrack, cast/character development, and very well directed by D.J. Caruso.
Okay... show me.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned earlier in the thread,
but based on the exorbitant asking price for a new DVD of Salton Sea,
is it safe to assume that this is OOP?
Okay... show me.
