I like comedies but I have to admit I am not a fan of modern comedies. They are just too dumb for me and reply on the most flimsy premise to make the movie work.

Weird. I can find myself enjoying movies out of just about any genre. However, the ones I find myself less drawn to are horror and drama. With those two it depends on the movie.

Anime. Every year i try another one ... last year Akira, the year before Summer Wars and this year Oscar winner Spirited Away. It just won't click.

Never saw any of the "Dirty Harry" films all the way through, nor the others you mentioned. I watch both "Castle" and "Person of Interest" on TV, and have probably seen half the original "Law & Order" episodes over the years. It really depends on the nature of the story, including content issues. I'm not a big fan of mob movies either; haven't seen any of the "Godfather" trilogy.

I do like some military films, one of my faves being "A Few Good Men".

A Few Good Men is only a military film on the surface, in that the trial takes place in a JAG court. But at its heart, it's simply a courtroom drama, like any other.

How can you say you're not a fan of mob movies when you haven't even seen the best ones??

The trial doesn't just take place on a military campus. It involves Marine and Navy officers, both innocent and corrupt. The story was actually inspired by a real case that writer Aaron Sorkin's sister was involved in, during her time as a JAG attorney.

I know that. I've only seen it about 30 times.

And regardless of what inspired it, one could re-write it as non JAG-case, making few changes, and still tell the same thematic story.

OTOH, you can't for example remove the war element from, say, Full Metal Jacket or Saving Private Ryan and still tell the same story.

As I said in another thread, you don't have to experience everything to make a rational decision.

Its been quite a while since I actually sat down to watch one. The only thing that comes to mind right now is "Analyze This", but that's more of a parody.

All modern paranormal films (the worst)
Nearly all found footage films (bore the heck out of me)
Most modern Horror (and Horror is my absolute favorite genre)
Most modern comedies (I love the Hangover films)
Many superhero films or comic book adaptations (I love the X-Men films)
A lot of Anime (nothing against any of it, most of it just isn't really my thing)
”Always leave boiled rice out for mice and keep lamps dark out of pity for moths.” The ancients had this sort of concern, and it’s really the whole point of life, generation after generation. Without it, one can only be called a blockheaded carcass. - H.Z.

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture. - T.P.

Romantic dramas
Comic movies (until the past year or two...some pretty effective ones have been made recently)
Most modern horror (this genre is in need of rejuvenation)
Most modern action flicks
Musicals

Animated features, shorts... any more they just put me to sleep.
Most horror flicks. (But not all.) Life's too short.
Silent comedy shorts if last night was any indication, let me tell you.

(Otherwise, I'm pretty open and may even get to some of the above from time to time.)

Anime for me, Akira is ok but can't get into the genre.
