That is why the movie has a five minute recap of THE EVIL DEAD at the beginning before continuing on with 100% new material.

It is SHOCKING how little people seem to pay attention/understand when they listen to commentaries and watch DVD documentaries.

EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN is not, has never been and was not intended to be a remake of THE EVIL DEAD.

I removed my post for a reason, I've just refined my theories. I will launch an EVIL DEAD blog featuring my timeline and the related theories. Watch out! Thanks.

Here we go:

http://evildeadarmyofdarkness.blogspot.it/

Featuring a NEW TIMELINE/SCENARIO assembling all 4 Evil Dead movies together in a coherent universe. Just my 2 cents, it's not gospel.

This is a labour of love. If you get any useful suggestion about the English grammar, the ideas, the theories and so on, please don't be silent. Promote the blog among your Deadite friends. Thanks!

Rewatched this film on blu-ray 2 nights ago. Was the first time I saw it in 1,33:1. Great to see this film with amazing picture and sound quality and in its original aspect ratio. One of the very best horror films of all time. 5/5

I'm surprised they didn't release a bray trilogy pack to coincide with the release of the remake. I was holding off buying them on bray just in case. I guess its safe to go and buy them up?

Starz/AB has parts 1-2, Universal has AOD. You can just buy them now, because there wont be a set.

Exactly. But make sure to buy the Lionsgate release of Evil Dead II. It's the 25th Anniversary Edition.

Anchor Bay only had EDII licensed from StudioCanal for a finite period of time so they didn't ever "have" EDII any more than Lionsgate currently "has" it.

Anchor Bay also doesn't own TED either. It's an independent production owned by Renaissance Pictures meaning its controlled by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. I believe Bruce Campbell is also a co-owner as he was a Renaissance partner at that time.

So the situation in the US is currently:

TED: Renaissance Pictures licensed to Anchor Bay

EDII: Studiocanal whose library is currently handled by Lionsgate

AoD: home video rights controlled by Universal.

So yeah, a box set is probably more trouble than its worth.

Is this a flaw inherent into the transfer?

When Scotty was struggling with Possessed Shelly, is it me or Cheryl in the basement was beating the cellar's door with her head in a strange way? Like the sequence has been manipulated, maybe slowed down a bit, sort of cinematic technique of some sort... look at Cheryl just before Shelly gets stabbed.

I went to Best Buy after work tonight just because and I'm glad I did because they had a copy of the LE Evil Dead with the 2006 special features disc. Needless to say I snagged it up, along with the 25th anniversary of ED II.

It may have been sold out at the headquarters but there's probably a few copies making the rounds at the distribution centers.

I'm probably committing a "sin" mentioning this on a blu site but as I type I'm watching Evil Dead on laserdiscI've gotta say it looks pretty damn good.

The Herald Videogram laserdisc is arguably the best way to watch the movie. The bluish tint used in that transfer makes the movie way more creepy.

I actually prefer the first one because it is more straight-out horror than the following two. Most people I know like Evil Dead II better. But for me, the mixture of comedy (or 'splatstick') and horror rarely works. I never really found it to be that funny, though I have always been in awe of the effects.
Most wanted blu-ray upgrades: Seconds, Suspiria (remaster), Danza macabra, L'orribile segreto del Dr. Hichcock, Nosferatu (1979), Il boia scarlatto, La frusta e il corpo, Sei donne per l'assassino, Dracula (1979), The Haunting (1963), Jungfrukällan, L'avventura, Spoorloos, Les yeux sans visage, Prince of Darkness, The Changeling (1980), Ringu, Ju-on, Psycho II, Psycho III, The Maze (1953, 3-D)
