Well, the 2009 & 2016 DVD versions were that way, but the '09 Blu-rays had photographs of all 7 original crew members, 1 for each disc!

Anyone here know what it is this time around?

No digital copies in set confirmed.
Are the Blu-rays picture discs with original cast member photos for each disc like 2009 or like the 2016 50th Anniversary case and slip cover artwork?

The new blu-ray sets are also missing the final special feature disc from the earlier sets, but I'm sure that was already known. I do like the new packing better, however. Besides, the captain's logs were purely supplemental.

The things that are different in the 2106 re-issue:

Cover art for the front of the case.

No artwork for the back of the case, just one of two sentence descriptions and credits for each movie.

Slipcover with the same artwork as the front of the case and a "Celebrating the 50th Anniversary" banner at the top. The back of the slipcover features additional artwork with a banner at top with stills from the films.

The omission of The Captain's Summit bonus disc from the 2009 collection release.

The films are in a 6 disc Viva Elite case, unlike the original issue which had each film in it's own dedicated DVD style slim case.

What is the same is the discs themselves. Same grey label with just the titles for each film on it with the exact same content, same sound mix, etc. However, if you play the discs on a BD-Live enabled player, instead of the trailers for 2009's Star Trek and The Original Series on Blu-ray trailers, you see the trailers for Star Trek: Into Darkness, World War Z, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Hope this helps.

We got the new 50th anniversary boxed sets in at work. From what I can tell, they don't even retain the extras.

Wait, the movie discs themselves don't have extras, either? Did they re-author the discs just to remove the extras?

So the new set has the same DNR'ed transfers and less extras then the previous set?

For God sakes Paramount just remaster the Trek films that you heavily DNR'ed already!

Yes: the discs are the same 2009 releases.

I'm not sure. Maybe they're retained on the discs and just not listed on the packaging.

Didn't anybody read my last post? I thought I said this about the discs:

Just wanted to say that again for clarification. I thought I did make that clear.
