Default World War Z 3D!!

Watching the superbowl and a WWZ preview comes on, looks totally bad ass.

Then at the end..

"Presented in RealD and Imax 3D"

Wooooohoooooo! I didn't think this movie was releasing in 3d but I guess it got a conversion. Now I'm REALLY excited to see it. I'll try and find the preview later and post it hear.

Anyone else's excitement level just jump through the roof?

Delays and 3D? Just went through the floor... A la GI Joe Retaliation.

Trailer:

It should end up being a hybrid 3D production because it has a ton of CGI.

I'm digressing, but the superbowl ad for the next Star Trek movie also stated 3D engagements - that's new news to me.

Oh this is awesome! I can't wait to get this on blu ray now it's 3D too, i thought the trailers looked pretty cool before knowing about the 3D.

Does anyone know if After Earth is in 3D?
3D ALL THE WAY!!!

IMAX and RealD 3D. That's been out there for a few months with Star Trek, just not heavily advertised with the 3D since it isn't really needed. They want the words Star Trek to get the majority of your attention.

WWZ looks terrible, IMO. At least from the special effects shots in the trailer it looks cheesy.

Mine did by a huge margin !!!! Zombies in 3d are always entertaining. Can't wait to see 3d footage and the movie itself looks very interesting imo.

The movie looks pretty fun, but it sounds like they just decided to tack on the 3D in post production. Not very promising...

By the time it comes out, it will have been postponed 6+ months. More than enough time to get a good conversion.

It looks cheesy because of the style they are trying to copy from the book. There are millions of zombies in the streets and they are mindless, completely. They don't care what happens to them. Hence the reason they run right off the top of the roof and pile on top of one another to climb over a wall.

Something Keb pointed out - it does appear a lot of the film has CG effects which means they could render a true second perspective (actual 3D) in oppose to 100% converting everything. That's definitely a plus towards quality, though I do understand everyone's skepticism with any conversion.

Let's just hope they did it right!

But it definitely has raised my excitement for the film, I love good Zombie horror. Especially the revamped zombies now days that are not slow and stupid, but fast and lethal (and stupid ).

It's not the timing that bugs me. It's the design. The trailer is full of 2D-style photography and editing. The movie was planned and shot for 2D, and then studio decides to tack on a conversion while they're finishing the CGI effects, delaying it 6 months so they can be like Jim Cameron and "do it right." At best, we get a few convservative CGI pop-outs, a couple of interesting CGI action scenes, and some mediocre converted depth à la Wrath of the Titans. It might end up being a little more fun than the 2D version for 3D enthusiasts, but there is no way it will be a quality 3D experience.

It's sad that Hollywood is still doing stuff like this. If they wanted a 3D movie, why not just hire a director with a 3D vision from the start? June might actually be the perfect release date as summer tends to be the best time at the box office for action movies and the worst time for 3D.

I don't know... A large amount of it will be open cityscapes and aerial shots perfect to help maximize depth perception.

The six month delay has little to do with the 3D, besides apparently trying to polish a tire. The film was delayed last year when they had to re-write the third act and do re-shoots in the fall.

The GI JOE Retaliation 4 minute preview trailer has great 3D for a conversion, so if the movie does the same level of strong 3D, the wait will be worth it.

Sadly, like Oblivion, non 3D, only 2D option.

I felt the same way at first about the image of a horde of zombies moving rapidly like a big blob, but will give it a chance being a zombie fan, though I'll admit I prefer slow zombies as they seem more dead than alive. Running zombies should be "infected humans", like the ragers in 28 Days/Weeks Later. 28 Months Later is possible.

That explanation helps, thanks Keb. I haven't read the book yet after all these years. This is part of a planned trilogy depending on box office.

Thanks for the news on the 3D JSmith. I was hoping this one would be in 3D and hearing that it now is, peaks my interest even though I was probably going to check it out just for the heck of it.

Fast zombies definitely amp up the tension compared to my preferred slow zombies, which are more about a decaying, dead atmosphere as in Walking Dead and Romero's classics Night, Dawn, Day.

Good news on World War Z in 3D, thanks!

I'm predicting a safe PG 13?

Cross fingers around here that they let some gore and a few F-bombs fly, here's hoping for a big fat R.

But you're probably right, especially with a 3d movie - you wouldn't want to cut out a chunk of viewers. On the scale of better film vs box office money, money bags mcgee will always weigh it down. At least we're fortunate enough (in some cases) to get the unrated / directors cut of flicks when they release on disc.

Nerding on zombies a bit, I can definitely appreciate some slow decaying zombies in oppose to the fast rage filled killers. I thought the remake of Dawn of the Dead from 2004 had a great cross between the zombie types - they were fast and crazy but definitely looked decayed and worse as the film rolled.

Speaking of, watched that the other day, Phil from the show Modern Family was the @$$hole (profanity definitely used as an adjective in that characters case) with the boat lol. I'll never look at Phil the same again hahaha!!

Yes to some gory scenes. Did the book have a lot of gore in it, weapon zombie kills?
I wonder if the new Evil Dead reboot will be as gory as the original Evil Dead from Raimi, but it's looking like it might have a chance and will earn a hard R rating as they say.
Brad Pitt was in Inglorious Basterds. Was that also rated R I thought? If so, this could also be an R for World War Z, hopefully.

I also watched the remake Dawn a couple months ago and his character was memorable, agreed. He was identifying zombies as famous movie stars in that one scene on the roof. I was surprised they never pursued a sequel to it. Its good he was able to keep acting in more stuff.

So far, the only scenes I've seen of World War Z never show a single close up of the zombies, keeping the trailers very mysterious. I hope the make up FX offer very decayed zombies in addition to the fresh ones. But yes, this is a huge surprise to hear this is going to be 3D and in 2D also. I'm glad as long as the conversion is medium to strong 3D.
