Just picked up the Wal-Mart Exclusive Matrix Triple Feature for $7. The best part is the discs each have a tray, no stacking, which was a nice surprise. They have the TMNT pack too for the same price.

Gray Thursday? Jeez. I wonder how long until December 25th in Canada becomes pre-Boxing Day? (Undercard Day?)

So, I just now ordered the set. Does it still come in the tin packaging?

It was a January 1st deal. I purchased it online and scooped it up from the store along with 'Enter the Dragon' 40th anniversary edition.

Why exactly is this set under review at amazon.com
The movies play perfectly and there is nothing wrong with the packaging.

In Melbourne, they will have a screening of a 2K transfer of Mad Max 1 and a new 35mm print of Mad Max 2...

How could I contact the Kennedy-Miller company to know about the lost negatives of MM1?

First of all,

There's no flickering or wavering in Thunderdome. It is perfect.

Secondly,

This is my new Mad Max site, about the fictional chronology:

Have a good read!

Do you mean the Blu-ray of Thunderdome? You must have a different version to the rest of us, because the telecine judder is blatantly obvious right from the opening titles, and it continues throughout the film.

I haven't seen it, but wouldn't the reviewer have mentioned "blatantly obvious ... telecine judder?

Which reviewer? BRDC? I'm just telling you what I'm seeing. The titles literally judder from side to side, and this effect continues unabated throughout the film although it's only really obvious on static shots. I've seen that sort of thing a zillion times on old transfers so I'm not saying it's some hideous defect, but it is there.

My own thoughts on the disc, FWIW: http://film.thedigitalfix.com/conten...underdome.html

Is this inherent to the compression or they just got the transfer wrong?

Neither. It's an artefact common to the older telecine method of transfer. As the film passes through the pickup it can actually move slightly from side to side, owing to either poor registration on the machine or shrinkage of the film element itself, which is what creates that persistent judder effect.

The more modern method of pin-registered scanning is slower but much more stable, and any remaining judder or flicker (owing to the deterioration of the film) can be levelled out using digital tweakery.
