I know AMC had a press release saying that they were upgrading all of their theaters to Sony 4K SXRD (LCOS) projectors. I know someone said earlier in the thread that the AMC ETX uses a 2K DLP double stack? Now personally that sounds a lot like the "Liemax" set up to me (which can also be found at AMC chains). Now the thing that has me wanting to check out the ETX screen is Dolby Atmos sound, but can anyone comment what kind of projection is actually going on with the ETX screens?

The Tysons Corner ETX screen was upgraded to playback Dolby Atmos sound. saw 'The Hobbit' today on a Regal RPX HFR screen - the Barco 4K projector and it's projected image was beautiful. Last edited by Dubstar; 12-15-2012 at 01:35 AM. |

I live in Northern California and the closest IMAX is over 200 miles so it is not really an option for me. However I do have a Cinemark XD just 3 minutes from my house. I do enjoy it and never experienced anything wrong when it came to picture or sound. I have been to real IMAX theaters before and I would rather spend the additional ticket price on that. I'm content with the XD but I tell my wife of when I hear upcoming films like OBLIVION having actual IMAX footage in the movie we try make plans to go down to the big city to enjoy . My first job was actually being a projectionist for Cinemark so I guess subconsciously I have this connection with them. Movies are so expensive now in days that I try to only go out and see the ones I'll imagine I really like.

The RPX screening was standard 7.1 -
I'll be seeing/hearing the Atmos mix @ AMC Tysons Corner's ETX screen next week. Last edited by Dubstar; 12-15-2012 at 03:09 AM. |

I'll let you know...
speaking of the soundmix, I thought it was odd that at the beginning of the movie there were a few instances, inside Bilbo's home, where it's so quiet, that it seemed like Jackson/Howard Shore forgot to score/final sound mix those scenes, it's very weird since the music score in Fellowship, Towers and King is overly excessive at times. |
