Cliff Mac of Shout! Factory posted on AV Maniacs that they plan to bring "many" new-to-DVD titles next year. Of course, he didn't go into specifics about which titles, genre, or even if they're all Universal titles or a mix from various studios, but the fact remains: 2013 is already looking very exciting!
OK, let's get this initial batch of movies out of the way before we start speculating about next year. First, Carpenter has been confirmed as participating in the extras for THEY LIVE. Good, because a Blu-ray of the film just wouldn't be complete without his involvement. Carpenter has declined, however, to say anything on-camera about Halloween II or III although his lack of interest in those films is nothing new. I only recently discovered that he was actually involved in producing and writing both films so it's a bit of a letdown that he won't be providing any insight. Tell you one thing: a John Carpenter commentary on H3 would've made for a killer extra. Phantasm II was said to be the Blu-ray that will receive the most extras. I love the film and it's actually my most-anticipated release but even I'm surprised that it's receiving such royal treatment. I hope Cliff is able to locate some of the workprint footage and has the ability to include it in the upcoming Blu, at least as a supplement. A commentary with Scrimm is a no-brainer. Maybe he'll shed some light on the rumored forthcoming fifth film. Well, assuming the 2013 titles are all from Universal, what would you like to see come out next year? My wishlist: PYCHO II. Hugely underrated and highly deserving of a Special Edition THE UNINVITED (1944) PRINCE OF DARKNESS. Carpenter's last good film IMO DEATH BECOMES HER THE LEGACY Last edited by cine74; 07-13-2012 at 12:41 PM. |

Universal's 1977's THE CAR and 1978's FM both seem perfect Shout Factory titles.

I had no idea there was a sequel to Red Scorpion. Is it any good?
