Hmm, gonna have reservations about this. Original got to like as a kid. A truely played Halloween movie but will a sequel seem as special as the original?

That would be interesting if Sarah Jessica Parker returned - I prefer her 1990s roles over her romantic-comedy roles.

Never seen the original, so I can't comment on whether it needs a sequel or not, but does a film like this from the early 1990s really have appeal now? If it was something like Mrs Doubtfire which has had a long lasting appeal then I'd understand, but I'm not sold on this one.
Ask me any question about Doctor Who and I'll know the answer.

I usually don't think sequels so far after the original are a good idea, especially when the original becomes sort of a 'cult' loved movie, but it could work i suppose. Plus, you should see the girl now

Saw this again recently. Still glorious.

Whether or not the sequel is worthwhile, I'm thankful it's not a remake. I'd rather a continuation than a retell.

It didn't, until we all begged for the original on video.
Disney could be digging out their old "Aristocats II" strategy of making new sequels to raise awareness marketing for old unsellable titles now on disk (where we knew the title but had never seen the original and couldn't judge)--And it was either the sequel, or do a stage musical like Newsies.

Seems a little late for a sequel don't you think?

This will be a typical Disney direct-to-video sequel cash-in with none of the original cast. Just reboot it.

On the plus side they will save on the 'ugly" make up for Sarah Jessica Parker

This would be cool. But I want it to be a theatrical release and not some Direct-to-DVD/Blu release. I also want Midler, Parker, and Najimy back.

I want to see the original again. It's been a while, though I did catch part of it on TV in the past year. Think I'll check it out again in October, especially with the Blu-ray being released in September. I love a good Halloween-themed movie.

I have to admit that I thought SJP looked pretty good in HP, probably because of all of the makeup.

+1 I loved the first one as a kid and still do, so I would be very picky if they ended up making a sequel.

Sorry, did not intend to offend!

As for joining the forum and remind us she is rich and as millions of fans, she can is she wish but does it make her happy? I am not rich and I don't have millions of fans but I am happy. If she can only be happy with money and adulation from total strangers then I apologize to her and truly feel sorry for her.

i only put that up because you essentially called her "ugly" so far as i know SJP hasn't done that. i'm not rich either, (not necessarily poor either) nor am i ugly, (or not found to the liking of some) but, i'll tell you, if i had SJP money, i would be a lot happier than i am right now!

'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Rumors Are Unfounded, Disney Says

Quote:
If you're a child of the 90s, a Bette Midler fan or a creepily over-enthusiastic admirer of young Omri Katz, you might want to sit down. We have some bad news. Disney is not -- despite rumors that have flown faster than Sarah Jessica Parker on a broomstick -- planning to revisit its classic 1993 Halloween musical.

"The studio is not developing a sequel to 'Hocus Pocus,'" a rep told The Huffington Post.

For those who initially missed the news debunked by this email, Moviehole reported on Friday that Disney was "quietly developing" a follow-up to "Hocus Pocus." Moviehole even claimed that the movie had a title: "Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch," which instantly brought to mind spectacular visions of Betty White joining the cast as Bette Midler's slightly older sister.

Moviehole's report cast a spell over a large swath of the blogosphere over the past few days. It was picked up by Perez Hlton, MTV, NME and many others.

So unless Disney changes its mind after seeing how surprisingly popular a 19-year-old movie about soul-sucking songstresses remains, there are going to be a lot of disappointed fans out there.

i am glad to see that the rumors were founded to be untrue. sorry to all those who were looking forward to another movie but in my opinion disney has not made great sequels in the past and at best they were decent films.
