Several of these, and those in my earlier order, are being released at various times, so I shouldn't be receiving more than three or four blus max per shipment (reducing the risk of getting hit with any duty fees....)
Oh yeah, if they're being shipped at various times I think you should be just fine!

And even when I did get smacked with the duty on the one order I got, I think it was about $25.00, which would've added about $3.50 to each film I ordered, so even with something like the March Madness sale, if you're saving $7-8 per film, the duty would suck, but you'd still be saving a bit of money. Win-win either way probably.

I wish the prices were better. It's not much cheaper than Amazon, even at the $150 threshold

Anyone place an order in the excess of $150 US and get hit with duty fees? Wondering if I should break up one large order into multiple small orders.

my order was $160 but mostly pre orders. the first shipment that went out was 3 items valued at $60 they went though customs free of charge. the reset will pretty much go out 1 at time. so i doubt anything else will get dinged.

if $150 were to come all in 1 package though idk still 50/50 chance they would let it slide but u never know.

i have had packages as high as $200 go though with no charge. but then i had a package of only $30 were they wanted hst plus $10 handling free i told them to send it back. after i got the refund from the store i re ordered it a few weeks later and that time it went though no charge.

Pardon my ignorance in all these duty charges you guys are all talking about. Is that the same as UPS brokerage COD?

I ordered a few movies. Like, $90 CAN worth and got a UPS notice at my door with a fee.
Is this normal?

I've ordered from the US many times from many retailers but this is the first time I get something like this.

Well I got ****ed big time lol. Placed an order of 7 blus and 1 DVD. Shout shipped 2 blu-rays yesterday and they arrived today. Cost was $33.52 USD but declared value was $44.83 CAD. Ended up having to pay $17.13 CAD in import charges. I might just have to refuse the remaining shipment(s). Will Shout Factory give a refund if I don't accept any packages?

****, I'm so angry at myself.

Yeah, that's what I was just saying. $14 for me on $90 CAN of movies.

So much for the "free shipping to Canada" part.
This pretty much kills any savings. Was better off through Zeus or Amazon.

I ordered a handful of blu-rays in the past from the UK amazon site and was only charged customs/duties once. Even then it was only $5-7. Do the charges vary by the shipping company used or is it a rule of thumb where you may have to pay if you purchase is above a certain amount?

It must be hit and miss. I received one of my movies via Purolator, no extra charge, and a separate shipment via USPS of about $75 CDN, no extra charges either. The rest of my orders are all pre orders for movies releasing between early May to mid June, so we'll see if I also get nailed with any extra charges then but so far, so good....

Weird I've only ever paid import or duty from amazon stuff when they started including it in the amount. I got 2 of my shout titles no prob to canada without additional charges

Yeppers. Out of frustration, I e-mailed them asking WTF was going on hoping to get a courtesy customer service credit or something.
Nothing. Here is what they responded:

"Hi,

Unfortunately, our website does not have a distribution center located in Canada. As a result, all orders we ship must cross the border, and some end up with additional duties, taxes, and other related charges.

I have read online that there is a way to "self-clear" UPS packages with customs, which you may want to investigate, but I am certainly not an expert in this area. As per our FAQ:

For Canadian buyers, import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges where applicable are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your customs office to determine what these potential additional costs will be prior to buying. Please note that some orders to Canada do not ship with order tracking information.

Apparently you can go to a CBSA office and clear the package yourself. I'm assuming that you won't have to pay the UPS brokerage fee (which is what accounted for the majority of the cost of my duties).

Lesson learned though. Unless the fees are included in the total upfront like amz, I won't be ordering from this and other similar sites again.

That sucks, sorry it happened to you. Absolutely would kill the savings on an order like that.

It's really odd. I wish there was absolutely a clear-cut answer and what gets charged and what doesn't.

Like I said before in this thread, I've placed huge orders with Shout before, and only once got dinged with import charges (and it was on an order large enough that it didn't negate the savings I got from ordering with them).

I've ordered from SAE entertainment before for a total of $351.95 USD, so WAY over $400 CAD and didn't get charged a single cent for import. Maybe they include something in their shipping charges? I dunno, haven't looked into it.

I just went back into my email to look at the largest order I've ever placed from Shout. It was for 24 films. Only two shipped out separately (Cherry Falls and Death Becomes Her). The other 22 shipped together. The total was $429.13 USD and I specifically remember NOT being hit with any fees when it was delivered...
