And we lights the city, not just for him, but for all of them that are still out there. 'Cause we knows there come a night, when they sees the distant light, and they'll be comin' home."

No matter how superb a converted movie is realized, it will always have finite layer limitations, never having the potential for the infinite capture of real-wold spacial dimension. Native 3D will always have higher potential.

Sorry I misunderstood your previous post. I thought you meant the 3D was the only great thing about the movie.

Got a used copy for $10.49 with free shipping so guess it evens out. But when I first ordered it thought was getting a real bargain.

This was a generally great 3D conversion for 3D layers and even some pop out effects, with a good number of strong 3D layers (just watch the scene where Khan is in his cape and hood, blasting away the enemies with the particles flying and the lasers blasting).

That's one reason I was disappointed with the generally mild 3D of Star Trek Beyond, since JJ Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness' 3D is on par with the 3D of Abrams' Star Wars the Force Awakens in many respects. If I remember, Stereo D converted both of those. Not sure who converted Beyond.

How is the 3D weak (haven't seen it) when Beyond has the same budget as Into Darkness?

one shot on film, IN TO DARKNESS,the other digitally ,BEYOND,may have had some affect on the results of the 3d as well as the regular 2D neither of which was well reviewed for BEYOND.I guess good old film delivers the best results.

It also matters how long they spent converting it...

That's true that the 3D budget is what the conversion team is limited to. If they're hired to convert the film into a basic, mild 3D presentation with a fast turn around to meet a deadline, then that will be the result. It's possible the Producers behind Star Trek Beyond didn't care about the 3D much, and put that money that could've allowed for a strong 3D conversion into other things, and the mild 3D result speaks for itself. Stereo D have proven their team can deliver strong 3D results if given the time and money to do it.

Was hesitant replacing my copy due to the so-so 3D reviews but after reading many of the remarks here, glad I ordered it during cyber Friday.

I have the Walmart (2D) steelbook from years ago but always wanted a 3D copy too. So glad I waited and bit when it hit this price. Will sell off the rest of the set and digital copy and will probably not have spent anything!
Now I just need a 3D disc of Beyond (yeah I heard it's not a great conversion but my OCD says I need it to go in my BB steelbook)

So, rewatching it on my new LG C6, I have to say the 3d is more impressive then when I first watched it ~4 years ago. 3D in general looks better on it then my old Vizio M but this is one of the nicer upgrades. I'm at least not horribly disappointed now.

I watch movies on a LG C6 and a Sony X800.
