So I need some advice, I have been thinking of getting rid of the Yamaha's that I am currently using as my rear speakers in my 7.1 set up. They are all that's left from my htib I bought many years ago. Anyways I am thinking of moving my current side speakers (Sony's) to the rear and buying some Polk Audio Monitor 60 Series II speakers for the sides. Is this overkill?

You're asking about overkill in the land of overkill. Should be great although with all those towers you're going to need to get some more power at some point, IE separate amp or bigger receiver. You see upgrade begets more upgrades, it's never ending.

If you can live with the bulb dimming over time then YES run it till it goes.

Had what I guess was a surge go through the phone line. It killed my computer, PS4, and directv receiver cause those were hardwired to my router. All my electronics are on surge protectors. But I never even thought of needing to cover the phone line.
Also not sure how but my projector which is only hooked up to the PS4 and directv through hdmi quit too. It starts up and the lens cover opens, but then it closes the fan gets loud, and the two red lights flash.

Of course all of it is out of warranty now.

I hope to have a new home theater to share with everyone in the next few months.
Only thing I am worried about is that the basement of the house we are looking to buy is not all underground. The wall my theater will be near is just drywall then insulation over the cement foundation and lastly brick on the outside of the house. I am probably just paranoid, but I am afraid the neighbors wont be happy if sound gets out.
the next door house is only about 5 feet away.

Put an offer in on the house and it was accepted. Hope it works out for me. Guess I can always take the walls down and add soundproofing.

Finally starting to get it put back together. Not the biggest fan of the wall ceiling and carpet colors but I wasn't allowed to repaint. Either way it definitely beats the wood paneling the old theater had.

Couple quick questions though. The bottom of the screen is about 29 1/2" from the floor. I have read that you want head level to be about 1/3 up the screen. Mine is only 1/4th. Should I take the time to lower it, or should I just leave it be.

Second question I still have the black felt from when I masked off part of the screen in the old theater since I could not go far back enough with the projector to use the whole 120". Should I hang that along the top, sides and bottom of the screen now? That would give a thicker black border and hopefully help since the wall the screen hangs on is white.

Once again.................. Congratulations on your new digs
I wish that I had the space for a dedicated theater

But if I may make a suggestion .......... I would move the screen several inches towards the door so as to not bury your right front speaker into a corner

And as far as the projection goes........ I can't be of any help as I do not own one ......... Can you alter the height of your seating though ?

Thanks.

As for moving the screen, I have huge front tower speakers, so if moved it then the left one would be in the doorway. The screen is centered on the wall, but the picture makes it look like it's closer to the corner than it really is. Is it bad to bury the speaker in a corner?

Also as of now I still only have my one chair, i am looking into getting at least two more or a small couch. When I do, I can also look into a riser.

Well ideally .......................... You want to have both of your front speakers equidistant from the side walls to keep them in balance (due to reflections) ...... Having speakers in corners tend to boost certain frequencies and cancel others . It's akin to the difference of speaking into a room then cupping your hands in front of your mouth and doing it again. Things tend to beam and lose their smooth response.

Treating a room (acoustically) can help with these issues though
