In my mind, one of the greatest trailers of all-time. That and the trailer for "A Clockwork Orange" are my two favorites. A lot of Friedkin's films have great trailers. "Cruising" and "To Live and Die in LA" have awesome trailers as well.
Top 10 Most Wanted on Blu-Ray: 1) McCabe & Mrs. Miller 2) After Hours 3) Bringing Out the Dead 4) Bob Roberts 5) O Lucky Man 6) California Split 7) The Music of Chance 8) Stardust Memories 9) Brewster McCloud 10) The Hitcher (1986)

I felt the first act of Wages of Fear had a lot of filler. It's why I prefer Sorcerer. But both are great.

No. That's character exposition. We learn a hell of a lot about the characters here and it's important for the rest of the film.

For anyone in NYC, this will be screening at BAM's Rose Cinema on Saturday. Three different showtimes:

If this has been asked and answered previously, forgive me, but a question about the Canadian edition, if anyone has ordered it:

Does it contain bi-lingual packaging? And is it a barebones release?

Thanks.

The packaging is not bilingual. There is no French language track on the disc.

It's barebones, but the only difference between this and the digibook is the digibook packaging itself. The discs are the same.

Those of you who are on the fence with this one better make your decision quick as it may be going out of print very soon. I recently got the DigiBook and it is a great release, it would be a shame for fans to miss out on it.

This was on my wishlist for years. Jumped on one of the last remaining $20 copies just in case. Any reason it's going OOP?

I've noticed a few WB titles have gone OOP this past month.

According to the OOP thread it's this, Time Machine, Get Carter, True Romance, 2001 and JFK I think? Best to check there though, just going on memory here.

I am sure 2001 is being re-released but who knows about the others.

Perhaps they're going to switch to regular plastic cases instead of having to continue producing the digibook packaging?

But if several other WB titles are going out of print as well, I dunno...

I felt like if I didn't already know Sorcerer was actually a remake of Wages of Fear, I would have had no idea what was going on during the first 45 minutes of the film. Something about how it abruptly went from one back-story to the next was highly disconcerting. I mean once they finally arrived at the oil town, I obviously knew that i had just watched the 4 back-stories for the 4 drivers. But if I wasn't already aware of what I was watching, I literally would have had no idea what the hell was going on up to that point.

I thought it was really poorly done in sorcerer IMO, compared to Wages of Fear where they didn't so much delve so directly into the character's origins and instead took a more indirect route of introducing the characters.

Hmm ... Thanks, but I've been put off by the absence of all the extra material that Friedkin absolutely promised was coming, plus (even more) his adding colour washes to certain scenes. (Not suggesting he had no right to do it or whatever, just that I didn't care for it.)

I guess I'll stick with Wages of Fear.

SORCERER is most likely being discontinued as the film was originally a Paramount-Universal co-production, and Warner was able to clear the rights for their release because they were already in bed with Paramount. But since that relationship is ending, so are a lot of Warner-Paramount releases. Buy it quick, as it looks like the DVD, the Blu-digibook , and the standard Blu case (for Canada?) are all OOP. Considering the tangled rights issues in getting the film out in the first place, this one may never come back.

It's also possible that there was just a run on them this week, as Friedkin was on Marc Maron's WTF podcast for two and a half hours of seriously interesting discussion, during which Marc brought Sorcerer up repeatedly because HE just saw it...and had very nice things to say.

Seriously, it was a great episode. Friedkin has some really interesting thoughts on digital vs film that will probably cause a couple of heads to explode around here.
