The PQ isn't all that bad, but it could look better without the DNR.

Watched this yesterday. The PQ surely isn't the worst that there is. Some scenes are way too over-processed but some even have some nice detail. Colors look strong and if the source is the old master created for SE DVD the PQ even looks surprisingly good in some scenes.

The AQ though was a little disappointment. It had punch and energy but felt sometimes flat and lacking dynamics (e.g. the gun barrel shot at the beginning of the theme song). I remember the SE DVD Dolby Digital 5.1 mix being so dynamic and full of energy that I was afraid if my home theater setup could take it. Is it just that the times have changed (as there are nowadays so powerful soundtracks like Dark Knight, Mad Max: Fury Road etc.) and this mix just is very dated or does the BD have a different 5.1 mix than the SE DVD? I don't own it anymore but has anybody given a spin for that to compare to the BD?

The old DVD had bass that was mastered 10dB too hot, it's no wonder the proper mix sounds weak in comparison.

Can't be or my av-receiver just didn't add the boost (with DD it's the decoder which adds the boost) because I've heard soundtracks which have that problem and they are very boomy. Goldeneye DD 5.1 wasn't. And with energy and dynamics I mean that the whole sound scale from low to high frequencies had those.

One thing's for sure: It's definitely the worst looking of the Bond BD's.

It was extremely stupid of MGM to not make a new transfer around the time they made a new transfer for The Spy Who Love Me.

Especially considering how good that transfer came out.
Life's a piece of s**t when you look at it.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait until Bond 50 is released in 4K UHD.

Still shocked that they could drop the ball on such a huge title, and that there wasn't a big enough outcry for them to correct the problem. Was hoping we'd get something last year, especially with SPECTRE also releasing, but oh well.

It's a grainy, grainy film.
