hey JJ, how has you Sony 790 been working for you?

I have gone thru 2 of them in 10 days. the first one the tray faceplate popped off, then the other one Ive had for a few days, last night just stopped playing dvds. it would play blus and cds but not a single dvd. I have about 100-140 dvds that Im never gonna flip to blus so I was rather upset when it stopped playing 50 first dates last night. I took it back today and go my money back. not sure what to do now.

i was told by the best buy lady that they return the 590 more then anyother blu-ray player they sell... that was a vote of confidence!!

Wow, really?

Mine's been nothing but a dream. Super fast loading, amazing PQ (I like to think it looks better even though it's probably the same), quick response to remote input - everything I wanted it to be over my old POS S480.

I have tried SACDs on it but found that my Pioneer DV48 still plays music at better quality than it does. Something about DACs, I believe.

My old man has the 590 and he hasn't had any issues w/ it to date, actually...

from all that I could tell its supposed to be a very good player so I was not happy to have had the issues. I ended up just buying the Oppo 103 tonight. Didnt really want to go that route to begin with, but at least its a reference player to go with my whole system that I wont have to worry too much about.
