Maybe closer to 80 million today, as people in jobs earning $1000/yr at that time might be earning closer to $40,000 today.

To keep things in perspective, I believe you could buy a loaf of bread for 9 cents in 1924.

Will this play on a Region B player? I'm very much interested in picking this one up

I can get this for £12.67 including postage through Amazon UK

just got my copy from importcds.
very excited to finally see this version.
the fact that the clear case is a cheap eco case is a major bummer.
C'mon Cohen, these films are too classy for cheap, flimsy cases.

Although it was a nice touch to include a still on the reverse - I wish more companies would do that.

Me too. In the meantime I've ordered the German release and am hoping it will be a worthy stopgap until Criterion delivers.

Viewed copy from ImportCD last night. Image is great, score is great but the
step-printing, where every tenth frame is duplicated to keep the score in sync,
with these elements, is very noticeable.

This must be one of those things that some people are sensitive to but not others.

I had read about the frame duplication before hand so, when I watched it last night, I spent the first couple of minutes of the film staring intensely at the action, trying to detect any anomaly. I couldn't see anything unusual at all.

After a few minutes, I just forgot about it. I never did notice anything.

This just dropped to $15.19 on Amazon which I believe is the current cheapest price (assuming you have prime and/or things you want for FSSS). ImportCD's has increase their price, which now comes to 16.34 with shipping.

It always pays (or not) to pre-order Import CDs titles rather than wait, as they all seem to go up after release, whether by 42 cents (this week's Olives) or a few bucks.

The list price is only 24.98, so would think B&N's eventual 50% off Art House titles or regular bluray sale would bring this to around $12, or less for members + coupons.

I had $20 and credit so I went ahead and used it on this. I've never seen it, or any of his other films, so I can't wait!

I watched this over the weekend on my projection system with friends... WOW! I'm speechless. Never seen anything remotely like this. The film was a jaw dropper from beginning to end. It's on my top ten of all time list now.

By the way, the frame rate is perfectly smooth. No step printing that I could see.

I mentioned this in the Cohen Media Group thread, but if you missed out on the cheaper prices from ImportCD's, Deepdiscount and DVDplanet both have it for under $15 shipped:

$12.93 + shipping from Deep Discount: http://www.deepdiscount.com/bluray/T...D-741952739494

and $12.46 + shippign from DVDPlanet: http://www.dvdplanet.com/buy/bluray/...bagdad_2546757

Even today, I can't hear Rimsky-Korsakov's solo violin theme without seeing the opening shot of the desert storyteller under the stars, or vice versa.
just to be repetitive..Yes this is great news! I had the exact same experience seeing this years ago on PBS. Unfortunately so many modern substitute scores for silent films, even the classier ones, leave me flat and prevent me from fully getting into the film. An exception would be the Carmine Coppola score for Napoleon. I'm still excited over the discovery of the lost scores for Metropolis and Nibelungen, though I'm sure most silent film scores weren't this great.

same here,on a 90" screen...,what a restoration...i'm still overwhelmed by it,the amazing sets, the story, the music....all perfectly blended to give us a adventure story in wich time flies by,not a minute is boring, and considering this runs at 149 min.
i considered "die nibelungen" as my favorite silent...but this one has earned that same spot now, will re-view this x times, just love

Down to $14.89 on Amazon, which is the lowest it's been on there.
