I think the BD laser has kicked the bucket on my BD35. I originally bought this player when it first came out in '07 or '08, can't recall. Can't complain as it has been used almost everyday. The only thing that works on it now is the DVD player, when I put in a BD you hear the disc or lens clicking. Any thoughts?

What is a good Panasonic BD player to get? I don't have 3D so that is not a huge deal for me.

I have a friend with the Pana BD85. I can't fault it!. Gorgeous picture and sound. Not a particularly common model to find where I am and believe it or not, the 3d players have dropped in price considerably and I believe a lot cheaper.

I purchased the BD30 in 09 and it hasn't needed a firmware update as of yet. although for a time, disc booting was distinctly noisy (sounded like it had smokers cough haha!) seems to have alleviated itself of this health issue however

Warning to all BD55 owners: Firmware update 2.4 made my player unresponsive. Panasonic said I should pay to ship it to them, then pay $105 for an 'upgrade' to a player that does not have comparable specs, the BD77 - which is only $85 on their website.

After 90 minutes on the phone with them, I am never, ever buying a Panasonic product again. Time for an OPPO.

My 35 is still kicking. I've rented somewhere between 200-300 Blu-rays since 2008 and can't remember having a single problem playing a disc. I've had disc that needed to be wiped off because of a spec of dust or some that have been scratched, but nothing that stems from the player needing to be updated. I got mine from Circuit City for $299, when they were first released, and I think it's fair to say I've gotten my money out of it. It still takes forever to load though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. My BD35 just quit playing Blu-rays last Saturday (01/26/2013). It plays DVD's but it will not play Blu-rays, not even discs I've played 20 times in it before...

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is a new firmware update out there that I'm not aware of?

I don't have Taken 2 and I've already seen it, or else I would try. I didn't watch it on my 35. Are all of you connected to the internet? Have you tried disconnecting it and then loading the disc? If you're not connected, have you tried connecting it?

My player is always connected to the internet with an ethernet cable and I don't have a SD card in the slot. I also have BD-Live set to Allow (Limited).

The player may need a firmware update though. I just haven't come across any newer discs that have had trouble playing.

I don't have this Taken 2 movie. But my player is currently not playing any Blu-rays at all, including movies I've watched on it before. So I know I'm not having a disc problem.

I'm pretty upset about this because I figure this player is now way too old to still be needing firmware updates and I can't seem to find anything online that would suggest there is a new update out there...

Does the display on the 35 have any error codes? I usually get the "U73" error code if I have a HDMI handshake problem. If your player isn't displaying an error code, it may be time to lay it to rest.

Yes, it is giving me an error message. When I load a Blu-ray, it makes a soft, high-pitched ticking sound three times fast ("tick tick tick"), then it goes on trying to read, then it makes the noise again ("tick tick tick"), and then it says "NO READ."

Try cleaning the lens of Your Blu-ray player if succeeded and everything is working again then you are good to go using it.If not than your lens blu-ray reading is broken fix it or it is time to buy a new blu-ray player.Another idea is reading DVD discs.

Thanks for the advice. I bought a cleaning kit on Amazon a couple days ago when I read your reply. I'll update you after I try it.

I have the BDT-220, but I assume the solution (if any) would be the same. How do I change the display on the machine so that it doesn't say either the time elapsed or the time remaining? I wasn't able to find anything in the manual.

I know your post is a few months old, but did you have any luck? The description of your problem sounds exactly like mine. It seems others have had the same issue in the last few months. Been trying to find a solution, as I have no money to buy another player. Was hoping a lens cleaner kit would fix it, but being that I'm extremely short of money, right now, even that expense is something I'm reluctant to spend, especially if it doesn't fix the problem. But if it does fix the problem, I might look into seeing if I can find one real cheap. It's the ticking sound that concerns me.
