From my Superior International BDs thread. I have the H.K. disc with the extended international cut and I am happy with it until the FR price drops.

Good comparison.

Someday, someone should make a Blade Runner-esque release, containing all the cuts on one disc.

It would be nice, but this is Universal we're talking about.

I was surprised to find out yesterday that the new corrected Barbarian (French steelbook re-release edition, #A0101909268-B911 2000) still contains two versions of the film. The UK cut (2h 10min 10s) and the uncut version (2h 10min 31s) with the horse falls. Yet Fox authored completely new version for the UK market containing only the cut version. Why we still have the the cut version in this release?

Actually, I accidently watched the film in cut form and instantly noticed funny things happening in the audio in the final fight scene. For some reason disc plays the cut version if the disc/player language is set to Finnish (or e.g. English). Uncut version plays when I select French as a disc/player language. Maybe it is a player issue, I have Oppo 83.
For sale. PM if interested.

Quick question for those that actually enjoy Conan the Destroyer. Is there any difference in PQ/AQ between the US and French steelbook release? I already have the french steelbook, but only bought because of Barbarian. I'd pick up Destroyer for $5 if it'll give me any improvement.

I also want to thank Fox and MGM for finally releasing a perfect disc of one of the best movies of all time, Conan the Barbarian which features my all time favorite score from Basil Poledouris.

I've spent two years of back and forth emails between Fox and Universal and I know many others who have as well. The fight was well worth it.

Currently, the French steelbook is the ONLY correct version of this movie to have ever been released on Blu-ray anywhere in the world.

I received this steelbook from Amazon France and have watched the movie in its entirety.

The choir during the opening attack on the village has been completely restored.

The night filter as Conan is chased by the wolves has been restored perfectly.

The choir during Conan's recovery sword wielding has been beautifully restored.

The percussion during the orgy scene is all there.

And lastly, the choir during the end battle is back in tact.

All original Foley effects are complete and unaltered.

The movie is completely uncut featuring the witch scene in its entirety as well as all of the horse trips.

The picture quality is as good as any previous release.

The corrected soundtrack is lossless DTS-MA and is a full blown 5.1 mix. It sounds fabulous, thunderous, majestic, and the dialogue is crisp. This new mix no doubt came from extremely high quality sources, most likely the original master audio tapes. It has that same liveliness and crispness as the newly remastered original soundtrack in the three CD collectors set from Intrada. It's that good.

The steelbook art is awesome and pictures don't do it justice. This is the definitive version of Conan the Barbarian.

MESSAGE TO UNIVERSAL:

A personal note to Universal and I hope I speak for many movie fans out there. Universal, you are a disgrace. Over the last two years I have been in contact with no less than three separate departments and a half a dozen supervisors, managers, and directors. You know who you are. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. You don't care about the fans. You don't care about the movies. You are working in the wrong business. You are all cowards.

Hi, does anybody has any idea if the UK-Steelbook Edition has also been fixed properly? Or only the French edition?

Any idea if the UK-Steelbook is also playable fully UNCUT by changing the bluray-player settings?

Thanks for your Time!

Unfortunately the new 5.1 audio, although it has restored the missing elements, is nowhere near as good as in the original Bluray!!
You can hear this in some audio comparisons posted in the previous page.

Huh, I'm not a hardcore fan of the movie and didn't know there were alterations. Movie censorship doesn't even have these cuts listed.

Yes I saw those, none speak of the blu ray version. Are you saying the US blu ray is the same as the UK 15 DVD?

No. The UK cuts regarding the horse falls are on the original UK Blu-ray if you're using a Region B player. They're on the new UK Blu-ray no matter what player you're using or country you select. The last link is specifically about the US/UK Blu-ray's.

If you want the films, order the French steelbook and you're set.

I already have the US blu ray. What I am asking is, is that the theatrical version?

Well I see it's extended, does it have the horse falls and original sex scene, is what I am asking. Every resource I look at says yes, but people are acting like it doesn't?

Or is this another case where people are focusing on UK issues in the US forum confusing the heck out of me!

The US version has the horse falls and sex scene intact. Only the UK version is cut for that reason.

Can anyone confirm or deny that the German theatrical DVD is in 2.35:1 or not? It's 16:9 enhanced, but can't find out of it's letterboxed.Thanks.
