"I think the movie itself is so bad, it’s unbelievable. But now we’re gonna give it to audiences in high definition." - William Lustig on Snuff from this interview here (sorry if that's been posted here before). At least they know how bad the movie is and not under any false pretenses. Still feels like a strange come-back title.

Why is Blue Ubderground so "dormant"? They've release plenty of Blu-Rays in the past, so why only one in 2013? I'd love it if they put out Suspiria sooner or later.

Too bad Lustig doesn't consider DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING worse than SNUFF - maybe he would've given it an upgrade a long time ago seeming as he only does so for "bad" films

I know, it's laughable. It's like they're giving the middle finger to blu-ray fans or something. Lustig: "Let's think of the worst movie imaginable, one that wouldn't benefit from an HD upgrade, at all....and let's put that one out on BD."

Maybe there was a new HD transfer that suddenly fell into their lap? Although I can't imagine who/what company would be motivated to commission one.

I think the Weinsteins purchased the rights a few years ago, because they were toying with the idea of a remake. It would be nice if BU could snatch 'em back, when they're available again...

It'd be nice if anyone with an intention to release the film would snatch them. I'd think Synapse, Scream Factory (this is probably one of the exceptions where they would release a Euro-horror title), Kino Lorber, Raro and Scorpion amongst others would be players on this along with Blue Underground if the rights were to go back up for grabs.

Just read Scream Factory is releasing Q. Guess that's more bad news for Blue Underground.

I'm very curious who Shout licensed Q The Winged Serpent from. Was it the same people who control Knightriders and Day of the Dead? If so then we can expect more surprise announcements like this one. But, more importantly, did Shout pull off a "power grab"? Did they make a kind of "hostile takeover" bid for these former Anchor Bay and BU titles or did they just become available?

The whole Blue Underground and Mill Creek connection for Keoma and The Grand Duel is confusing at best. When Mill Creek announced they were releasing Keoma on BD I simply assumed Blue Underground lost the rights but the fact that Mill Creek is releasing The Grand Duel on BD while Blue Underground is releasing it on DVD has left me scratching my head.

Scream aquired Q: The Winged Serpent from Blue Underground. Don't know wheather or not if the title came from the same people who control Knightriders and Day Of The Dead, but there's something in common; those films were distributed by the United Film Distribution Company. It doesn't mean that these films are owned by the same company (Taurus I believe) who currently has rights. For example, Timerider now seems to be in the hands of MGM and Sleepaway Camp is owned by Universal.

My guess is that they just became available, the distributors (Anchor Bay, Blue Underground) had no need for them anymore or the rights expired.

You want to know something ironic; Anchor Bay seems to have lost all rights to the United Film Distribution Company films in their library yet they recently released Mother's Day (1980) with Troma and that film was originally distributed by the United Film Distribution Company.

Dormant because they probably don't want to pay for new HD transfers.

The Weinstein Company owns it now so it's up to Anchor Bay now.

Well technically, it's up to the Weinsteins now, since Anchor Bay just distributes the Weinstein's movies.
