I finally opened my UK set. I would much prefer individual cases because I am a Jimmy Stewart fan and want his films as stand alones, but given that, I was quite impressed with the packaging. Attractive and sturdy.

I'll finally get the US edition, now that the price dropped!
I'm a bit concerned about the case though.
Do the discs scratch when you try to get them out?
How safe is it?

I've watchedy discs numerous times. No scratches. Just be careful. You shouldn't have a problem. Enjoy the set. It is absolutely incredible.

The cardboard material is extra glossy to make the scratches as unlikely as possible. My problem with the packaging on this box set is that the discs can slip too deep into their pockets so they can be annoying to get out.

A perfect cardboard packaging would've been a combination of this box set and the US Stanley Kubrick box set. The discs fit perfectly in the Kubrick box set, but I wish the cardboard was as glossy as in this Hitchcock box set.

The Australian release is typically $99.99 AUD and jbhifionline have 20% off sales throughout the year (one just passed) in which you can grab it for $79 AUD.

Only downside is it's a really flimsy digipak. Yes, the qhole thing is ONE long foldout digipak. Why they didn't just chuck the discs in two fat cases then slide them inside the cardboard slipcase (like they did with the forever marilyn set in Australia) is beyond me.

It's a tremendous deal if you want to get it cheap but you'll just have to wait for the next 20% off sale.

The discs tend to slip deep inside the pockets so you do have to fish them out, lots of fingerprints but no scratches; and even though I was careful the seams split on every single one of my sleeves the first time I removed the discs ....I ended up reinforcing them with small pieces of invisible tape and looks fine. . A brilliant set nonetheless and worth every penny even at the regular price.

Thanks for your replies..

By the way, something else I wanted to confirm:
I understand the Frenzy titles errors (from the UK set) have been corrected in this US set?

I think they've been corrected in the UK Blu-ray set as well, now.

I'm pretty sure the bad sets never went out at all. After the pre-sell copies were screened and reported to have problems the whole release in all regions were delayed for several weeks while they fixed the opening credits. Unfortunately they went back to the old pre-restored credits rather than the restored sections with corrected overlays so while the spelling and beginning credits are back to the originals, they don't look as good as the rest of the film.

The sets with the errors never went to market in any territory. The set was delayed in order to fix them.

I just wished they fixed the other flaws, like the terrible transfer for Marnie. Two thirds of the discs are good to outstanding, but so it's a shame a few are substandard.

Ok thanks for your replies about Frenzy!
Going to order in a few hours, as soon as my prepaid card shows the money.
I'm so excited that at last I'll get this set!
Hitchock films were the first ones that brought my interest to old movies!!

Looks as though, according to the front page of this site, Vertigo and Rear Window are finally getting individual releases on June 3rd! FINALLY! (I assume The Birds will be included in that)
