Hi I was wondering if any fellow forum members would be able to source one of these for me with a mint slip?

I can either pay cash or can return the favour by sending some UK titles if that is what you would prefer.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

I had a lot of fun revisiting Prince of Darkness last night by way of this Scream Factory Blu-ray.

Prince of Darkness looks quite good to me on this transfer. There are a lot of comments about artificial sharpening, but the movie has always had this uncannily sharp look to my eyes. I saw it at the theater back in 1987, when I hung out with a bunch of metalhead high school friends who wore their Slayer - Reign In Blood T-shirts all over the place, and I saw it on VHS about a million times. The colors are better on this disc, of course. The green ooze in the church looks brilliant, and otherworldly look of the people in its thrall comes across well.

Watching this movie brought back a flood of memories from my days of hanging out with the head-banging metal crowd during those teen years. I'm glad that it still holds up today, and I can probably attribute a lot of that to the fact that I enjoy stories that mix science and religion.

I really enjoyed the commentary track with John Carpenter and Peter Jason. John Carpenter's new interview is engaging, even if he comes across as being overly bitter about the state of contemporary horror (I'd take his bitterness more seriously if his own movies from the past two decades had been better.). The Alice Cooper interview was the highlight of the supplements for me, though. I wish that an interview with Anne Marie Howard (radiologist, glasses) had been included, because I'd like to have known what she thought of that comic relief aspect of the movie.

To the slipcover crowd...

My local Movie Stop had Prince of Darkness with a perfect-condition slipcover. If there is a Movie Stop near you, then give it a shot.

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has checked out the recent Japanese blu-ray of PRINCE OF DARKNESS?

http://www.amazon.co.jp/パラダむ...ce+of+darkness

Apparently, it comes with a trailer and two radio spots, and there seems to be a pretty cool booklet as well. Considering it was released by Studio Cannal (note: POD was released on DVD by Pioneer once upon a time), I wonder why (based on observations) it didn't have the audio commentary or even the other special features from the French DVD.

I was speaking about the Japanese DVD release. But you are correct, Image was the first company to release PRINCE OF DARKNESS in America.

Sorry, I didn't realize you meant the Japanese DVD release.

One thing to note about the Image DVDs of They Live and Prince of Darkness: They both have an aspect ratio of 2.40:1, and show more picture on the sides than the Universal DVDs and Shout blu-rays, which are slightly cropped to 2.35:1.

Maybe you're not in the correct mood to watch it. I get like that sometimes. Horror is a genre that you really have to be in the mood for. That's a really nice kitty-cat in your avatar!

I dearly love this movie. Saw it in the theater when I was 12, and the final jump-scare was extremely effective.

Again, has anyone seen the German or Japanese blu-rays for POD and can comment on them?

I'll probably pick up the Region B German disc.
That cap looks like I was standing there and then someone came up and handed me prescription glasses with a faint auburn tint. What were those sunglasses that were popular for $19.95 on tv in the 80's?

Anyway, I can't be honest with myself and say it looks like shit. I appreciate the pink "original" filmic look and the newly concentrated "brown" look. Think about pink and brown for a minute. It's just damn sexy.

But news flash, I inspected both caps and came to a very obvious conclusion that the halo EE is in BOTH versions.

It's right there, it's just more apparent in the "Amber-Vision" release.

Color me James Garner. I'm going with Shout Factory on this one!

I ordered from Target.com and Amazon.com. Both came without a slip cover.

I know this questions was posted over a year ago, but I wanted to answer in case anyone's interested.

You ordered 2 copies from 2 different places? Should I even ask why?

To try to get a slip cover. I have a RedCard, so I tried target first with the slight discount & free shipping. No slip, so I returned it to a physical Target location.

Then I tried Amazon which had no slip either. I figure I'm keeping this copy since it would cost $ to send it back. There was no out of pocket expense to try Target first. It's not a deal-breaker but I would greatly appreciate a slip for this movie.

They did a special screening of this film in the church where it was shot recently. Super neat idea. Must be a very open-minded church though, then and now.

It's not a church anymore. It's an Arts Center.

That's pretty neat to revisit the location, the building certainly had an eerie vibe to it in the film. I wonder what the place looks like today.

The Blu-ray has an episode of "Horror's Hallowed Ground" that visits the locations.

Also, I just noticed in the review that it mentions there is an easter egg on the Blu-ray of a Q&A panel from the 25th anniversary screening. Anybody know where it's located? I must have forgotten about it by the time I watched my copy and didn't think to look for it.
