You will lose center channel (dialogue) separation.

Bad idea.

That's just for the beginning. I've decided that i'll piece it together with medium/large high quality (imo) bookshlelf speakers. I don't know where rb61 are considered as far as size, but that seems about right. I had always thought it was better to build it component by component compared to into the box.

I'll just get the matching rc61, center channel, and likely rb51 as my rears next year when I get my tax return. But the more I look at it, 2 rb51 and a rc51 center, and then two rb41s as my rears would be fine too.

I see what youre saying.

In an apartment size, i would think front three first (L,C,R)

Then a sub (you might not get to enjoy a sub like you want if you have jerk neighbors)

Then surrounds if needed.

If youre worried about running wires you could try something like this:

I have a 2.1 Yamaha Sound Bar in my 920sqft Apartment and Its pretty loud. I used to have a 5.1 that I pieced together with floor standing speakers when I lived in a house but I thought it would be overkill for an apartment. Why spend the money on a nice setup when you cant really play it like you want because of Apartment Living.

Although he's on the right path, I do agree with you on the L/C/R approach. I've never owned a sub and probably won't for as long as I live in an apartment. This is purely a personal preference.

True, I mean won't the bookshelfs give some low end too? I looked at the rc61 center channel. That thing looks huge! lol

the 51 bookshelfs measure
10.7 x 6.5 x 11.4

with the center being
10.5 x 20.5 x 6.5 inches

Or even the 42's

That's probably just right, and still a good bit bigger than the quintets, and I like those.
Wouldn't even the smallest klipsch bookshelfs be better than their quintet satellites?

Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided exactly what I'm going to do. So now I'll bore you with photos of what I plan on getting.

[Show spoiler]Couch. This design, just a large couch and no random chairs.

This tv stand. Fits a 55 easily and will fit a 65" too. Plenty of open area for all my components.

two of these, one on each side for the the bookshelf speakers.

yamaha rx v673. Though I don't think this regarded too highly around here.

Two of these for all my blu-rays and ps3/ps4 games.

and a 3.0 set up for the moment. The rb 51 and a matching rc 52 center.

and 55" plasma

Hopefully all that isn't too big for a 16X12 room!
