Since starting my collection, I will not buy anything on DVD. If it a movie that I want to own, it will have to wait until the Blu-ray comes out. The only DVD's that I currently hold onto are the TV series' of Friends, Seinfeld, and Newsradio. I can get rid of the Friends since the Blu-ray's are out.

You can always get the HD DVD.

I bought the DVD for The Get A Life series because there's no way that's ever coming to blu. Hell, the DVD was held up for more than 10 years!

Recently I chose the Monster DVD over the botched blu ray. Did I make the right choice?

not sure about all, generally if the bd is so bad that it's worse than the dvd, i don't bother buying either.

For new/recently released titles, I always choose the Blu-ray. For catalog titles, it depends on the price. I won't blind buy an older title on BD for more than $6.

Of course, once you go blu-ray you never go back. Most of the time you end up getting a blu-ray/DVD combo pack anyway.
My most wanted blu-rays: 1. Bringing Up Baby (1938) 2. Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) 3. Dead Presidents (1995) 4. The Blue Dahlia (1946) 5. Criss Cross (1949) 6. Gaslight (1944) 7. Dangerous Minds (1995) 8. This Gun For Hire (1942) 9.Roman Holiday (1953) 10. Beavis and Butthead: Do America (1995) 11. Above the Rim (1993)

I bought the DVD version and chose a different Blu-ray.

In my opinion some movies don't necessarily have to be bought on Blu-ray, they look almost identical on DVD with upscaling, big CGI movies with loads of special effects like Star Trek will look much better on blu then on DVD but for an older movie with less special effects and no big scenery shots or action sequences is it really worth paying the extra money when you could get it cheaper on DVD?
So long as the transfer hasn't been royally botched then there is no way a DVD of a film or TV series is going to look as good as a Blu-Ray version. I can always tell when something is from a DVD or a Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray always for me.
