Nope, it's still the same Borg cube, I compared frames, and the lighting pattern on the cube is the same, the recompositing makes it look a different, remember CBS-D adds that extra love to make shots look gorgeous.

As for the saucer separation angle from under the saucer, from my understanding the film had warped... some people say it's noticeable in Generations...

Interesting. I hadn't heard that warping was a problem with that shot in particular. The only significant issue I can see on my Generations Blu-ray is an opacity problem -- the background stars are showing through the miniature.

It's odd that warping would be pronounced enough to scrap the shot entirely... I thought CBS Digital was using Autodesk Flare to correct any distortion or warping that caused the various element passes not to line up correctly anymore. Are you saying that it was warped beyond their ability to fix the shot? That would have to be some pretty significant warping -- like too warped to even scan the film.

CBS Digital certainly handled those kind of issues much better than HTV did. As I'm sure you know, a fair amount of the HTV work bobs and drifts around in ways the CBS Digital stuff doesn't and CBS Home Entertainment had no problem releasing it to the public.

I don't know about an official reason for the change, but I'll bet those original, cheap plastic model kit parts and sparklers didn't look too hot blown up in high definition.

Not really complaining, mind you... just wondering. It looks like they retained one particular L-shaped chunk that flies off (or, more likely, they recreated it):

I'll set a price alert for when this thing drops below $12. I believe the ST:TNG - The Next Level/Sampler dropped to $10 a couple months after it was released.

BTW, I have no interest in the season sets, but I'd love to see "All Good Things" get it's own disc too.

Not to mention that some of the sparks that exit the shot ricochet off a surface just outside the frame and come back into the shot(reference the top right section of the original shot version at 4-5 seconds into the video).

That would be a reason, if it irked someone enough.
