Any thoughts? First Blood was one of my first purchases and I was impressed but not overwhelmed with the transfer. Now that I see the studios getting very efficient at remastering, wouldn't it be nice if First Blood was on the list? I'd double dip no problem at all. Always liked this movie and maybe more so as it was filmed in Hope, BC which is not far from where I live.

It already has been (the entire trilogy)!!! Here: http://www.amazon.de/Rambo-Trilogy-U...2182671&sr=8-1
It's region free. 4K scan from the original 35mm negative. Looks absolutely marvelous. Includes lossless original audio Dolby tracks. Amazing, amazing release. Take a look at the comparisons: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ID=532#auswahl http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ID=534#auswahl http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ID=536#auswahl |

Yeah, I got the European for the transfer and the US for the extras.
The US transfer has a weird flickering effect, which is very evident in this screenshot: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ss=1#vergleich

Wow, I'm stunned that it's already out there, what a huge surprise, thanks!!! After translating the comments from German to English, not sure if everyone is convinced it is better though. Some say the colors on the US version are much more natural and that there is more to see in the darker images in the US version. Have mixed feelings at the moment.
Ok, I see how to compare now from your links by moving my mouse to the right had side of the screen and it shows Liongates version versus the German one. I'm not convinced it is a 4k transfer, especially after viewing the comparisons. Looks like a mixed bag. Some shots are better on the German one and some shots are better on the US version. Here's the same remaster, but in a UK set: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rambo-Comple...2185752&sr=8-2
But please note, in the UK set, Rambo III is region B locked. Everything else (including the transfers) is the same. There is no planned release for the U.S. |

I can't decide either which I like better.
I like in the European release that the noise is intact, and maybe it has a better contrast, but I like the colors of the US release. Also Rambo III in the European release seems too bright. Is there any official review of the European release? in comparison with the US one? I can't find here any.. by the way: Why it's saying here: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Rambo-...Blu-ray/24246/ REMASTERED AND UNCUT? The US release is Cut?
Most wanted Blurays: Raintree County, Age of Innocence, Spacecamp, Maurice, Explorers, Mayerling, The Remains of the Day, Supergirl, Krull, American Tail, Bringing Up Baby, Ulysses 31, Ducktales, Candy Candy (anime series)

I think I'll just keep my U.S. Blu's for now. The original U.S. blu-rays are nearly five years old now but I hope that there will be a new set of remastered editions sometime in the future. |
