IMAX Hubble 3D or Space Station 3D first?

I have two sea based IMAX 3D's. But I need to get one set in space to demo for family visiting soon. By all accounts both are excellent, so maybe I'll eventually get both. But which one would you get first, Hubble or Space Station?

I can only speak of HUBBLE 3D, but it's quite good for demo material. It's very strong 3D, and it opens with the IMAX 3D countdown trailer that just blows people away when I show it on my 110" projection system! The sound rocks on that trailer too so it's really like being in an IMAX theater to start off the demo. Then the open has titles that burst into stars that fly right at you.

It's a great little demo disc for me. There are also a few other nice chapters that show off 3D. Such as the training in the pool segment. If you can get this at a good price, it's definitely worth adding to your collection.

Ok thanks. Yes I've seen the opening. All the IMAX movies have it. I'll start with Hubble since it has outer space AND deep space scenery. Should be a treat.

Hubble 3D first, as the orange costumed scenes of the astronauts are in very strong 3D. The rest for the most part, sadly, is a mix of good to weak 3D.

Space Station, which I saw in theaters way back when in Imax 3D, was disappointing for the 3D. Mostly good to weak 3D with a few strong 3D shots. When they're in outerspace, there is the tendency for more ghosting, caused not by the film, but the fact our current technology's 3D glasses can't block out all light in the opposing eye, so we end up seeing a subtle "ghost image" of the astronaut in a silver/white suit, against a deep space, black background. In these cases, the editor may actually intentionally weaken the 3D to compensate in an effort to reduce ghosting. See Tron Legacy's 3D as another example of this.

I have the Hubble 3d bluray, had high expectations going in and was pretty satisfied. There were a few jaw-dropping scenes like a shot of the crowd outside watching the launch. A segment with the astronauts training underwater was stellar too. The outer-space portions were not as impressive as scenes on earth, still above average though.

You mentioned some underwater titles, I highly recommend Under the Sea and Deep Sea.

They're both excellent 3D with strong depth. I liked Space Station better. I think it had less 2D and converted footage along with a fun "extreme pop-out" where an astronaut throws a ball at your face.

This thread inspired me to watch it again, and while there are 2D and some flat shots, the weaker 3D shots are only because the distance of the stars in the dust clouds are so far away that landscape scenery tends to look flatter if they're trying to keep 3D on scale to some degree, of human sight, which flattens everything farther away (due to limited interaxial distance between the eyes).

The 2nd view was better for the 3D and the content. There are actually some strong outer space astronaut shots here. Imax knows 3D better than most.

Yeah, I like when they break the hyperstero "rule" towards the end with the stars. Very creative use of 3D to make you feel like you're traveling at lightspeed through outer space.

Yes. I wish they did that more often. It was sort of like watching Star Wars light speed in 3D.

It's something how the Stars are the size of the sun or larger. So scrolling through the star fields as they showed, was at super light speed as they mentioned.
