Sony BDP-S770 Vs. Toshiba BDP3000 - Blu-ray Forum

Apologies, In the thread title, I mistyped the Toshiba as the BDP3000. It is the BDX3000. If a MOD could change the title, I would appreciate it.

I'm looking at replacing our older Sony BDP-S300 and moving it to the bedroom. While I'm inclined to go with an Oppo, I'm also looking at these two players...

Sony BDP-S770

Toshiba BDX3000

They are pretty comparable to one another. While we have a Sony right now, I must admit that other than displays, I'm not a fan of Sony. I guess what I'm getting at is this... I know the Toshiba is a fairly new unit, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I'm really looking for an excuse to purchase it over the Sony, but I need to know if it's reliable or has any particular flaws. The reviews I've come across haven't mentioned long-term reliability. They have stated it is extremely fast though. I definitely like the physical appearance of the Toshiba much better (not that it's that important). I'm not looking for any debates or fanboy comments. I just want replies of actual experience with either of these players. Any input would be appreciated.

I have the sony BDP-S770 and have no complaints at all the 3d works very well and it loads very fast,it has been very relieable.

I had no complaints either, however last Saturday when I was trying to watch Black Swan, the player didn't work, I thought that I had a defective
movie, and when back to Target, where they exchanged the movie, then I tried again and it did not work. I called Sony this morning and they said that I need to upgrade the player, Have any one have the same or similar complain?

'Black Swan' on Blu-ray seems to be problematic with Sony blu-ray players.

- Is there a new replacement for the S770, like the S780?
And are the new Sony models better or worse than the 70 series?

I think that Sony might be a better choice compared to Toshiba. Just a guess...

isn't it likely that sony are to lazy to update their firmware?
some might say the player is not fit for purpose refund!

I've had this player for a few years. Hardly used(maybe once a week if that). Anyways lately the movie screen would turn black. Could still hear the movie just no picture. Trying to get help from sony is a real head ache. I was transferred 3 times and had to explain what was happening. Was supposed to get transferred for the 4th time. Told them to give me the number and when i have another hour to waste I'll call them back.

If money is not an issue go with the OPPO

, but if it is go with the Sony S770.
