Ok, so I just ran the audessy mic speaker calibration and the surrounds and front speakers all sound great, well, except the center level, I find the dialog is somewhat low.
I used three mic positions with something similar to a tripod. How do these resaults seem to you guys? I'm pretty annoyed about the dialog, sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it seems low to me, anything I can do to improve this? I do turnup the center level a few db, but the issues still seems there for some reasone. Here are my audessy resaults: Subwoofer: yes Front: small Center: small Surround: small Crossover: 150hz Double bass: off Dynamic EQ: On Dynamic volume: light and here are the level setting the audessy makes: bass: +4db treble: +8db subwoofer level:-5db center level: -6db speaker distance: left: 2,7m right:2,7m center:2,7m surround right:2,1m surround left:0,9m sub:3,3m Last edited by Sasy18; 04-26-2013 at 10:11 PM. |

i wanted to take a couple of minutes to talk about customer service from both Onkyo and the repair shop that did the repair work on my pre-amp.
as many of you know i told you that i lost audio out on my 5507 and since i knew it was out of warranty that i was going to have to buy a new pre-amp. yes, i did have my eye on the Marantz AV 7701. a friend here on the site (hammie) told me that he had his 5508 repaired that was out of warranty for a couple of months and still got it done. mine has been out of warranty for almost 2 years. he urged me to call them saying that they might do it because it's an expensive piece of gear and they want to try to stand behind these things given the dollar amount the customer has invested in it. also he said, you have purchased a ton of receivers so they will know that your a loyal customer! so, i contacted Onkyo customer service on a whim and after talking to them for a few minutes, describing my problem they looked me up and decided that they would fix the unit with a one time warranty extension. i was overjoyed. i took it to the authorized service center (Electronics Service Center of Rockville MD) and there i met my main man Jimmy Diaz, the Manager and dropped it off for service. i'd like to take a moment to recognize Mr. Diaz. he is an incredibly low key guy, an A+ citzen; Jimmy was a pleasure to deal with either on the phone, in person or by email. I highly recommend this company to anyone who needs their services for consumer electronics repairs. i got the pre-amp back, tested it out for a while. they replaced the hdmi board as the sound generator output had failed (or something to that effect) i was getting sound and i was happy, but then, i realized that there were problems with it. there seemed to be an hdmi handshaking issue that wasn't there before and it seemed to be with the replacement board. i sent an email to Jimmy and Onkyo to let them know, he reponded and i did the requested things that were asked of me. i sent back another response to them. Shortly after sending that email, Jimmey contacted me to let me know that he had been in constant touch with Onkyo and that it was decided that there was something wrong with the replacement board and they wanted me to bring it back in for another shot at repairing it. i did take it back, and once again, i got a call that it was done and i picked it up. that was almost two weeks ago. i'm happy to say that the problems that the first replacement board caused are now gone with the second replacement hdmi board and all is good. i've been using this thing every night for at least 4-6 hours and no less than 12 hours on the weekend each day too! it works perfectly. i get to keep my money in my pocket (sorry Marantz) which is nice, but i want to bring up Onkyo's customer service. yes, they could have simply said to me, sorry, it's out of warranty, your gonna have to spend another $1600 and get a new one; but they didn't they repaired it. when the first repair failed, they could have at that time said, look, we gave it a shot and it didn't take, we're just not gonna put the time & materials into the unit, it's an older unit too; but they didn't, they repaired it again. this time it worked perfectly and seemingly even better than the original board! i know sometimes we get frustrated with customer service from Onkyo and other equipment makers. sometimes it's our fault, sometimes it's there fault. sometimes, it works out like you (the customer) couldn't have imagined it would, like me. Onkyo and the repair facility worked to get my investment back on line. they didn't have to but they did and yes, it was good PR for them but also, it was a demonstration that they care to me, about me as a customer and they believe in their gear and the facilities that do the repair work. i wanted to take the time to recognize them for all their hard work and efforts to get my pre-amp working again. i read this site and other sites and you usually hear folks putting down customer service, putting down Onkyo and other gear makers about their customer service or products. rarely do you see praise and good things being said about customer service and how hard they worked to get something right for us as customers. i've found it just as important to praise as it is to scold. i for one am very happy and very satisified with the customer service i've received from Onkyo and Electronics Service Center in dealing with and ultimately repairing my faulted 5507 pre-amp. so happy am i with this great thing that i'm gonna renew my ties with Onkyo and make my self and my daughter very happ. i'm going to upgrade my bedroom receiver (currently an Onkyo TX NR509) and buy a new TX-NR525. you see my daugher will be happy because she will get her very first "big girl" receiver with hdmi, networking, iOS direct, lossless audio and all that good stuff; my daugher is 23 and graduating college next month! as happy as i am about the college, i'm happy for the new upgraded receiver i get since the biggest thing for me about it is that it can stream hi-rez audio up to 192/24 as well as DSD all via ethernet directly from my NAS! oh yeah, onkyo gets some money too! that money, comes from the money i saved in having my pre-amp repaired and not having to buy a new one. so from me, my daughter and the store i'm going to buy the 525 from, THANK YOU ONKYO and thanks to everyone in your customer service department that had anything to do with this especially Mr. Jose Torres! THANK YOU ELECTRONICS SERVICE CENTER, especially Mr. Jimmy Diaz! ![]() Thank You! ![]() yes, i encourage others to not only write about the bad times with your gear, the customer services failures and problems but also, the good times and the "well done's" that the customer services folks deserve. as usual, when i get the new receiver, i'll create a thread about it! now it's back to some gaming on the ps3 via the repaired 5507!

Such as, with Onkyo using audyessy, audyessy does not adjust the ‘Treble’ or ‘Bass’. As a personal preference, a person can make adjustments to the treble and bass. The other weird thing you have is the speaker distance. Onkyo measure with increments of .5, not .1. what that means, is your speaker distance should read something like 2.5 or 3.0, but not 2.7 or 2.1 Also, Onkyo doesn't say 'Small' or 'Large', with Onkyo it depends on the HZ if they are considered small or large Main Theater Setup:
(Panasonic 65" HDTV) (Onkyo 5008) (Onkyo M-282) (PS3 Slim 250gb)(XBOX360 4GB) (Monitor Audio - RX2's - (4)RXFX - RX CENTER) (SVS - (2)PB12 Plus) (Harmony 1100) (Monster HDP-2400) Bedroom Setup: (Samsung LN40B610) (Onkyo 805) (Sony BDP-S570)(Monster HDP-1800) (Klipsch - F2's - C2 - Quintet III's) (Personal built 10" Sub) (Harmony 880) |

Pretty sure I have an onkyo...since I bought an onkyo lol. I just wrote up the treble and bass stuff, as that's what it's currently set ass. As far as distance, that's what it says when I check the menu after audessy. I have this onkyo package: http://www.uk.onkyo.com/en/products/ht-s4505-75929.html I'm just slightly annoyed, one of the main reasons I got a system is because I got tired of the constant low dialog and high action, explosions sound when I was watching blu rays on my tv alone. The action, explosions sound is fairly constant though and it never goes out of control with this system, but the only problem I kinda have is with the dialog and maybe the soundtrack in movies, like I remember seeing transformers in theater and when the music kicked in you could hear it clearly, but here, it's kinda toned down and doesn't have the same strong effect like in theaters. As far as the dialog goes, I do turn it up a few db. but it's still not quit right when compared to the rest of the sounds in the movie, also when I turn it up, it's not quit clear, if I turn it up too much the sound kinda annoys me from the center channel, like it's to piercing to the ears. Also, it does indeed display small or large speakers. Last edited by Sasy18; 04-27-2013 at 11:20 AM. |

he is using a model from the UK (or so it appears) so yes, his distances are what he says they are because they use the metric system there that's what the "m" is for after each measurement of distance and the speaker cones are measured in "cm" rather than inches. also with the UK models, it does represent the speakers a "small or large" in the menu of their gear.
i am not sure of the true power output of this unit. it's probably not a lot. also the 100wpc is for 1 channel driven at 6 ohms. other than telling you to turn off the dynamic volume and boost slightly the center channel, other than that you might consider getting a different center with larger drivers, rated at 6 ohms not 8 as that will give you a bit more sound. also, sometimes, different movies are mixed differently (as i'm sure you know) even on my system which uses an external amp and 4 ohm center channel running at full range (large), sometimes the volume of voices from the center is a little low. this is especially true with Dolby TrueHD. anyway, while i am sorry if none of what i've posted has helped you. i do hope you can get your issue resolved. it would be best if someone with the same uk model could help you out. of course, you could always contact onkyouk. please keep us posted.

So im back with Onkyo!! When my 606 died I went with a Denon 1913 but felt like I really overpaid even though I really got a good deal on it. Anyways sold my 1913 and picked up a refurb TX-NR515 for $240 so I came out with a little cash on top of the deal
The 515 seems to have everything I want that the 1913 has minus Airplay which is fine with me since I dont own any apple devices.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened...

Just pulled the trigger on the 818. am now joining the Onkyo family. Got it for a good deal on clearance.
I liked the new Denon X4000, but didn't feel the build quality was there. It has plastic tops? And more importantly was $500+ more. Couldn't justify the money for the 3010. Not at that price. Store wouldn't come down on the 3010 to price i wanted to pay. Should be here at end of week. Stoked

Anyone use a combination of Onkyo, Panasonic and an HTPC? I just got a 515 yesterday and now my TV is getting 10 blinking lights (wont power on). From my research it seems the TV doesnt like the HTPC hdmi switching using the back ports. Read an HDMI repeater usually does the trick so guess ill be trying that.
