Yes, reference in this cirumstance means 80dB not 75dB. That's 5 decibal higher, because I'm "not all there".

I just got around to watching my copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D, in its entirety, yesterday afternoon.

Having never seen the movie before, I was surprised at how much I really liked it.
Seeing how critics and forum members pretty much trashed it, I was reluctant to add it to my collection.
But I went ahead anyway and picked it up for dirt cheap, around the time of the last Black Friday.

Man, I'm glad I did.

Great story, acting, state-of-the art CGI and nonstop action.
Not to mention, that the 3D was some of the best that I have ever seen and the 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, was simply spectacular!
Rerference quality for sure.

I have all three Transformers movies on Blu-ray and quite frankly, I've found DOTM, to be the best movie in the trilogy.
Glad I didn't take the critics advice to avoid this movie.

I just watched this again in 2d (I prefer the 2d version for this film after watching both) and movie wise I enjoy this the most of the three. Both A/V are the best of the three as well IMO. One of the most aggressive surround tracks on blu!

Dude, you got to watch this in 3D!
The movie is so much more immersive.
In some scenes you feel like your right there on the set.

IMHO the 3D totally blows away the 2D version.

I was not all that impressed with the 3d as it was conservative IMO. Not to mention there is a change in brightness part way through the 3d transfer which I find very annoying. Just personal preference, but this one works much better in 2d for me.

Man, this movie started off so awesome, the first 1 1/2 were amazing, then when all hell breaks loose in the city, the movie then becomes a nightmare.

I also thought that the movie would open for the IMAX sequences...anyone have info on this?

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was shot in Digital 3D. Actually, a hybrid of Digital 3D and 35mm with 3D conversion. There was never any footage filmed in the IMAX format for the third film. Only the second, and possibly a little of the first. (Unconfirmed)

As with all of Michael Bay's movies, many critics will always have very different opinions with his films. His films are mostly nonsense, but very entertaining nonsense. And his familiarity and his close working relationship with Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound makes for the best Blu-ray material. He has worked for and with Lucasfilm for many years, as far back as Indiana Jones days. So he knows film technologies like the back of his hand and is able to know where and when to push the digital boundaries. Or at least, the people that works with him know when to do it.

The Transformers films was one of the best playgrounds for ILM and Skywalker Sound to do that. Rendering Devastator in the IMAX format literally burst the render farm into flames. Driller Bot crushing the skyscraper took 288 hours to render one frame per 3D eye. And DOTM was the first soundtrack to exceed the 32,000 audio tracks the Apple software ever allowed in one project. Not to mention the number of months to model and animate every character.

All these results in one of the best reference Blu-rays. And I always use DOTM to demo my home theater set up.

Indeed. Much of the movie was shot in anamorphic 35mm and converted by Legend3D, who proved that their conversion skills were no fluke with the excellent Top Gun adaptation.

When Michael Bay released Transformers Dark of the Moon in 3D theatrically he raised the brightness of the print so when you put on your 3D glasses the picture brightness would be similar to that of the 2D version. My question is, did Michael Bay have the brightness on the 3D Blu ray transfer raised also?

Don't know if he did or not, but the picture looks fine as can be on my 3D tv.

Can someone confirm to me whether or not the 2D version disc in the 3D release is the same disc used in the 2D release ? ... I would hope they're the same, but I just want to confirm ..

Although I cannot confirm it, I don't see any reason why should they use a different disc.
If it's any point of reference, the 2D Disc in my 3D package is light blue in colour.
