Do the people involved in making these movies know they're not available on blu-ray yet? Haaaa

Imagine Cameron clutching his 35mm prints and laughing at all of us maniacally. "Suckers!" he screams, while he prepares a home theater screening of True Lies.

Or, he might be using those prints onboard his personal submarine while exploring the Marianas Trench again...

Related to a lot of discussion in this thread:

I watched Bird on a Wire tonight on the old DVD. It is non-anamorphic and both my players did NOT automatically make it proper widescreen, like they do with True Lies and The Abyss. So there must be some kind of flag on those discs, maybe on Fox discs, that Universal's Bird on a Wire does not have.

When it comes to Cameron, I think Captain Ramius in "The Hunt For Red October" said it best:

"There is little room in Tupolev's heart for anyone but Tupolev."

Just replace Tupolev with Cameron and there you have it.

I said that here: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.ph...postcount=2330, there is indeed a 4:3 Letterbox flag which non-anamorphic titles were encoded with, though clearly it wasn't mandatory.

Yeah, I thought we suspected there was a flag and I just wanted to confirm it. Wonder why they don't all have it.

Today marks the 61st birthday of director James Cameron. Happy Birthday, Jim! We wouldn't have this thread here without your contributions to cinema. Thanks for giving us The Abyss and True Lies.

I am surprised the Abyss has not been redone in 3D. The underwater aliens would look fantastic in 3D and I am not fan of 3D.

Aren't most filmmakers that way?

Default A Sad Loss

R.I.P. “The Abyss and True Lies Planned for Blu-ray”

It is with great regret that we announce the demise of a Blu-ray appearance for:
The Abyss and its sibling True Lies.

After a brave but ultimately futile struggle for the past two years (possibly much further back), these two brave but flawed, although much loved movies have given up the fight.

Friends of the movies have kept their memory alive for over 120 pages, ultimately their families couldn’t care less.

A sad loss – will be fondly remembered.

I made a note to abandon these threads when they reached 150 pages - just got impatient. In any case my eyesight won't be up to hi-def (in whatever version) for much longer.

Still, here's hoping. . .
