We were told the original negative for Baasha was unusable, as were all posiitve prints. Wer are just as suprised as everyone when the new version came out!

You have already emailed us about it, and now you are asking on a public forum. We are not doing BluRay of Remastered Baasha! This has been asked to death!

Too bad..that was a classic Mani Rathnam movie - one of his best! When Criterion could make excellent blu-rays for the Apu Trilogy even when some of the original negatives were destroyed in a fire, I suppose its not impossible, just maybe not financially viable, considering the amount of restoration involved.

May Be we might need to find out who has the rights, or Should someone has any contact with "Sathya Movies", we can get some answers.

This will definitely be a treat to all thalaivar fans, if this makes to Bluray.

No more BD's in the near future. We are focusing on our TV channels in Asia now.
Piracy in DVD and streaming is killing all legit releases of BD's. Average customer dosent care anymore about quality.

If you believe that Piracy is killing the release of Tamil BD's what about Bollywood movies, each and every Hindi (Bollywood) movie are released in BD and they still being pirated / torrented / streamed / cam / tc / dvdscr etc., How come the Bollywood industry are able to make BD's? The reason is BS.

If the software companies like Microsoft / Adobe / are worried about piracy they should stop developing the latest softwares and shutdown their company.

Good and Bad exists in the world as long as they maintain a balance.

Thanks

They have a larger market share. Most Tamils have low end VCD and DVD players. BD is a niche market for them

Situation is pretty much the same (or maybe worse) in Kerala too. Doesn't stop the home media companies here from making quality BDs for the hit films though.
The above text is purely based on my own opinion. If you mistake it for some sort of soothsaying, you cannot be more wrong. :-P

I would also argue like most members in the forum have done previously. I am not denying that piracy exists. However, in spite of piracy, the Tamil blu-ray releases always seem to sell-out. Every month, you see members on this forum asking questions about how to get an out-of-print blu-ray. So, looks like there should be enough of profit for companies which indulge in Tamil blu-ray releases regardless of the fact that piracy cuts into profit margins.

You have to replicate 1000's for it to be worth it.

Indian and Iruvar should have 5.1 sound. These idiots can't or won't present these films properly.

Just curious - how much money are we talking about to make those 1000 copies? This would include everything from obtaining the copyrights to make the blu-ray possible, authoring, replication, cover design, etc.? Since you are an industry insider, I figured you would know. Maybe, we could even do some sort of a Kickstarter campaign to get enough people involved, if the numbers seem doable..
