So im a fan of the Great Gatsby...that is the novel. Having watched the (in my opinion) spectacular 1974 film I expected something along the same lines with this new one. Knowing Lurhman's way of directing and his cinematography style, I was rather looking forward to this film.

Here are my pro's and cons (instead of an essay long review)

Pros

- Leonardo DiCaprio plays a great Gatsby character.
- It covers the novel's story very well
...thats it.

Cons

- Shooting style was too fast and it didn't coincide with the pace of the story.
- 3D was ambiguous and basically a stupid thing to put to a film like this.
- It felt like I was looking at the 1920's through a 15 year old eyes (too much "jazz" and "overly lit up".
- Jay Z music...(why this was in there...I don't even...)
- CGI was overboard and I felt like I was separated from the film.
- Nick Carroway is a drunk in an asylum...give me a break.
- They show know relationship between Nick and Jorden, no matter how subtle it was mentioned in the story, it was very much implied.

Overall, I rate this film 3-4/10. Can't believe I bought it.
WTB:
Standard Blu's: Finding Nemo (non 3D with slip), same for Brave. Cars 2 3D with all discs. Disney 3D releases (G-Force, Chicken Run, Little and Meet the Robinsons etc.). Beauty and the Beast Xmas with slip.

Although, I am a fan of both the novel and this film, I completely understand your dislike for this film.

I watched this yesterday and I really like it. I voted 4 stars. The color effects were similar to a digitally remastered Wizard of Oz sort of way.
I do notice one thing regarding Leonardo DiCaprio characters so far.
[Show spoiler]His characters seem to die in quite a few films that I like, for example, Blood Diamonds, The Departed, Django Unchained, Titanic and the most recent The Great Gatsby
. I'm just a bit concerned since he is my favorite actor, LOL.
One of my best blind buys!
