I think I'd always assumed they were the not-so-director's cuts, which is why I held off on buying them. I don't need that padding.

I'd previously owned the initial blu-ray releases, which had very crappy PQ and what I remember being the theatrical cuts.

I guess what I'm asking is, for a guy who found the PQ on the previous releases distractingly bad, and who wants to avoid the "director's cuts" like the plague, would this set be a good investment? Any huge caveats?
The new transfers for LW1 & 2 are rather nice and though the masters for 3 & 4 are older they hold up really well IMO. You get some half-decent new extras (although I'd avoid the Dick Donner commentaries unless you want a cure for insomnia) and the deleted scenes for LW1 are in HD which is a nice touch.

For the money the UK set is available for (as chip mentioned) it's the very definition of a no-brainer.

Are the stepping jaggies that evident (as they are on caps-a-holic) on the original Lethal Weapon 2 Blu-ray during, Geoff D? They look pretty nasty.

The aliasing (not only on LW2 but several other old Warners discs) is one of those things that people either 'see' or they don't. Me, I thought LW2 was a particularly bad example of it, the old disc looked shite.

Initially yes, but when Lethal Weapon 4 was released onto VHS in late 1998, these were then shipped to retail. I remember seeing them at Best Buy during the Christmas holiday that year, right next to the Titanic double VHS sets.

Ordered. Thanks fellas! (Beats the hell out of paying $45 bucks for a used copy here in Canada.)

Was going to put this thought in the Assassins thread but there is no Assassins thread, so I'll just put it here. It's amazing that Donner, who cut these Lethal Weapons down to lean, mean and snappy films that feel 5 minutes long, let Assassins release as a 2+ hour movie with 30 minutes of fat and meandering meaningless scenes.

Haha, yeah his movies started running 130-35min for awhile there. Conspiracy Theory is another that falls into that category.

The Assassins funeral scene was shot a few miles north of me, I got to see Stallone hanging out in between a take.... they ushered us away when they were going to start filming.

The pacing on that one is pretty darn slow... there's definitely a better 115-120min version in there somewhere.

Are we ever going to get a remastered, standalone, theatrical cut Lethal Weapon release? LW is one of my favorite films, I've probably seen it at least 100 times but I have ZERO interest in the other three. This seems like a no brainer, everyone and the mother would buy this.

Not if they already bought the box set of all the movies. There may be a small audience that just want the first film, but I'd say a majority of the people who wanted it probably bought this box set and already have it.

Yeah, and the UK set can be bought for buttons (just like the Superman anthology) so even if peoples hate the other movies down to the core it just makes sense to bite the bullet and get the UK edition. "But I don't like those crappy ratings logos!" ohdearwhatapitynevermind

I enjoy all 4 films, but Lethal 1 and 2 are where it's at! The box set does have decent transfers so it wouldnt hurt anyone to pick up the UK set for the first film, if not the first two.

I can't imagine someone loving the original and not liking 2 as well, which makes the UK set normal price for two movies. The fact it comes with 3 and 4 makes it a bargain, for most. One of my favorite releases ever.

So just to confirm: the UK boxset of these films includes the remastered transfers of Lethal Weapon 1 and 2? Because I know the Australian boxset has the old, crappy transfers for Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 which is why I haven't bought it.

I can confirm this. Bought it from Amazon UK when it first came out. It has the new Remastered versions of 1+2. Just watched this set a few weeks ago... Love it..
