Default X-Files TV Series in BD

Is there any chance that X-Files TV Series, not the Feature Film, will be released in Blu-ray? How about the Simpsons TV-Series. The current Simpsons DVD PQ is horrible, even for DVD standard.

I'd love for The X-Files to be released on BD. However I don't see it happening, plus considering how much the DVD's are going for I can only imagine how enormously expensive the BD would be.

I think for the first few seasons, we're looking at a Star Trek:TNG situation. A lot of the SFX work was done at NTSC video resolution (even though the show itself was shot on film), so they'd have to go back and re-edit the entire series, and re-do all the special effects in HD for this to be a possibility.

The later seasons, I believe, would not be as big of a problem to deal with.

16:9 was from Season 5 ! But don't wait for the Blu-Ray, X-files on DVDs is worth it, it gives a feeling of the "non HD tv's" 90's !

Considering it was the 1st television show to be given a "Complete First Season" treatment on DVD waaay back, I'm surprised there aren't any seasons out on blu-ray!

Still love this show immensely, & would love to see it in HD. Have to agree with the OP, Simpsons just looks horrible on DVD.

I believe I read somewhere that MPEG2 compression is not favorable to animation if not really tweaked with using special encoding matrices. But AVC H.264 codec is more more favorable so it might be beneficial to re-release on blu just for the new encoding format even if not HD material. The H.264 codec does not restrict to just HD resolutions.

On the topic of X-Files. I was wondering what studio would be the first to just release SD material encoded with AVC codec and try to fit all the episodes on just 2 BD50's in a single size case. They would really be a space saver for alot of these TV show boxsets that take up so much space. Heck, they may just be able to fit the whole season on one disc, now how cool would that be. And since packaging and mass production costs could be reduced, then the pricing of TV seasons on Blu could be priced around $40 MSRP ($25-29 Street). Most seasons are 6 disc DVDs at 8GB each thats only 48 GB total and with reduction of bitrates using AVC, these can easily fit on one BD50 disc.

Most special features on Blu are 480i and I wonder if those are just kept from there original MPEG2 encodes or if studios re-encode for AVC.

H.264 codec From WikiPedia:

Quote:
The H.264 video codec has a very broad application range that covers all forms of digital compressed video from, low bit-rate Internet streaming applications to HDTV broadcast and Digital Cinema applications with nearly lossless coding. With the use of H.264, bit rate savings of 50% or more are reported. Digital Satellite TV quality, for example, was reported to be achievable at 1.5 Mbit/s, compared to the current operation point of MPEG 2 video at around 3.5 Mbit/s
