Pretentious is mroe about a film simply trying too hard to be clever, amrt, upity, stuff like that.

For example - take Elysium. Some may call this film "pretentious" when its actually not. Its just another "Rich business people are bad, poor people are good" message movie . Its silly and annoying but I wouldnt call it pretentious.
If you've seen Upstream Color, how far would you go with that one?

Oh it's pretentious, but worth a view if you're feeling artsy.

There is nothing pretentious about Upstream Color, it doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't. Just because someone makes films unlike anybody else, doesn't meant they are being pretentious, it means they are being original. The film gives you a cinematic vocabulary of visual associations and once you get your head around it, it all starts to make sense. It is both my favourite and most watched film of last year.

I'm surprised by how beautiful the film Adore looks. The plot is absolutely absurd and the characters are extremely contrived but if you can get past that you might find an enjoyable movie.
Most films that I find good I don't want to experience again.

It was a good movie and I liked it too. Though I agree with the Mandarin criticisms I still enjoyed it.
Iron Man 3 is popular to bash on, as is The Avengers now. Not sure why hating on Marvel films is getting common here but it is.
The Dark Knight is also coming under fire lately. Some of these movies people love at first but then after a couple years start criticizing. Weird.
I like X3, Spiderman 3, Iron Man 3, The Wolverine, and The Avengers. Take that all you haters!

The problem with objecting to absolute truth is that you can't say there's anything absolutely wrong with it.

The only good things about that film are the beautiful scenery and Naomi Watts.

Beautiful. Naomi Watts is alright, but her accent is unconvincing. Is it too hard to find 2 Australian actresses?

Cate Blanchett's performance in Blue Jasmine whilst it's an okay performance. I personally don't feel it's worthy of all the acclaim it's being getting. Her accent in this is horrible.

Naomi Watts lived in Sydney for fifteen years performing, actually.

Watts was born in the UK, but her family moved to Australia when she was in her teens. Her natural accent is an Australian accent.

Yeah I read that after I posted. Must have just been bad acting then. I mean I don't expect her to sound like Steve Irwin but damn.
