Exclamation Panasonic DMP-BD60 will not play Starship Troopers

I have had Starship Troopers for 4 months now. Today I finally went to play it. I tried it on all 3 of my DMP-BD60's with the 1.5 firmware and it would not play.

I updated to the 1.7 firmware and it still will not play. Does anybody else who has this player and movie have this problem?

There is nothing wrong with the disc itself because I tried it in my BD30's with the 2.8 firmware and it works perfectly on both of them.

Do you have a SD card loaded in the slot? If not, you need to have a SD card installed before the movie will load.

Found this:

"As it happens, this particular Blu-Ray disc was authored in such a way that it needs to save data to memory before it can launch its own menu. Some players do not have this problem. Others, like the PS3, already have memory on board and would never present the issue."

You where not the only one that had this problem. Next time try the search feature. Hope this helps.

That's odd........... does the DMP-BD30 have memory on board? Starship Troopers plays perfectly on both of my BD30's.

Why would an older, lesser model have something a newer model (BD60) does not?

How big of an SD card needs to be in there for it to work?

It has to do with a 2.0 profile player vs an older model 1.1 player. The movie can tell what player it is put into and when it realizes that it is a 2.0 profile player it tries to load additional content and needs a sd card in order to do this. Read your manual and it will explain what type of SD card it excepts. I own a panasonic DMP-BD35 and here is what is in my manual:

SD Memory Card* (from 8 MB to 2 GB)
SDHC Memory Card (from 4 GB to 32 GB)

* Includes miniSD Card and microSD Card
≥Please confirm the latest information on the following website.
http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/cs
(This site is in English only.)
≥When using cards from 4GB to 32GB, only SD cards using the SDHC logo can be used.
≥This unit is compatible with SD Memory Cards that meet SD Card Specifications FAT12 and FAT16 formats, as well as SDHC Memory Cards in
FAT32 format.
≥The card types mentioned above will be referred to as “SD card” in these operating instructions.
≥MiniSD Cards and microSD Cards can be used, but must be used with an adaptor card. These are usually supplied with such cards,
or otherwise customer provided.
≥[BD-V]: To play the virtual package ( 21), it is recommended that you use a card that supports SD Speed Class Rating Class 2 and
has 1 GB or more free space.
≥Useable memory is slightly less than the card capacity.
≥If the SD card you are attempting to use was formatted on a PC, it is possible that the card may not work properly.
≥We recommend using a Panasonic SD card.
≥Keep the Memory Card out of reach of children to prevent swallowing.
≥When a card recorded in the AVCHD format is being played, the video may momentarily pause, especially where one recording ends
and the next one begins. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.
≥To protect the card’s contents, move the record prevention tab (on the SD card) to “LOCK”.

Bottom line Sony Pictures kind of screwed this release up and gave any 2.0 profile player fits unless there was some sort of internal or USB or SD external memory available.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but does this apply also to the UK release of the film, and if so, can you use a usb flash drive as an alternative, or is it solely SD cards to get it functioning?

Bumping this thread again.

Having trouble playing new releases. Says the disc cannot be read. Can't seem to find instructions on how to strengthen the blu-ray player lens. Any other possibilities?
